Lead Drupal/PHP Developer

Job Description

Purpose of role Williams Lea is looking for a Lead Drupal/PHP developer. This is a full-time role. The successful candidate will be working in a dedicated Web Development Team within a fast-moving and growing Technology function. The Technology group provides services through all areas of the software development lifecycle. The role involves working with the latest technologies on client-facing bespoke development projects as well as development of internal platforms and systems. The successful candidate will be working in a team of developers to build websites with a range of technologies and for multiple clients. Experience with both Waterfall and Agile software development frameworks is advantageous. This role requires participation in the full product lifecycle, from design to deployment, to post launch phases including technical support and editorial and technical training. In many cases this is a client-facing role. The main skill required for this role is Object Oriented PHP and ideally a good knowledge of Drupal 8+. Knowledge of the Symfony framework and components is expected. A working knowledge of Apache web servers is expected; experience of working with AWS is an advantage. Knowledge of Front-End Development technologies including but not limited to JavaScript, jQuery, HTML5 & CSS are also advantageous. Key Competencies Experienced Drupal 8+ or Object-Oriented PHP developer able to implement robust and high quality web applications according to specification documents / user stories. Client-focused, working independently and simultaneously across multiple projects. Capture and documentation of customer requirements and transformation into software design specifications / user stories. Writes structured well-documented code to deliver scalable software solutions. Competent problem solver and quickly identifies and finds ways of overcoming obstacles and barriers. Good communication, able to write clear and concise documentation for technical and non-technical audiences. Team player with effective time management. Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to peer review and provide feedback on others work.Key Activities Develop code as per the specifications and coding standards. Liaise with Technical Lead, Testers and project stakeholders both verbally and in writing. Assist in the production of detailed technical design documentation & estimates. Implementing unit tests. Ensure all code passes unit testing with appropriate code coverage. Assist in peer reviews of other team member’s code. Provide feedback on processes to refine where necessary. Technical support, including assisting with on-call support. Key Technologies Experience in the following is required: Developing websites in PHP using Drupal 8+ or Symfony Developing websites with a Content Management System JavaScript HTML5 Integrating websites with 3rd party REST APIs PHPUnit Unit Testing framework Composer dependency management Git version control Cloud hosting (AWS) Experience in the following technologies is desirable: Drupal development (particularly module development) CSS up to and including CSS3 Cross-browser compatibility testing and development Accessibility and usability (WAI, WCAG, ARIA) CSS pre-processors (e.g. Sass, Less) Building responsive websites Apache server configuration Linux server management XSLT and XPath Continuous Integration (Jenkins) Qualifications and Experience Educated to degree level or higher in Computer Science or a related technology field. Experienced PHP developer with a history of implementing robust and high quality web applications according to specification documents / user stories. 6+ years working with web technology. Experience of the software development life cycle and Agile development methodologies. Experience of providing client facing support is an advantage.
