Lead Backend Engineer

Role and Responsibilities

As a Lead Backend Engineer in our India team, you will be responsible for:

• Writing clean, modular, reusable, testable, and well-documented code that adheres to coding standards.
  
• Developing unit tests and performing integration testing to ensure code reliability and maintainability.
  
• Troubleshooting and debugging complex production issues, identifying root causes, and implementing solutions quickly.
  
• Designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, efficient, and secure backend systems with a focus on performance and reliability.
  
• Ensuring alignment with global coding and design standards for consistency and interoperability.
  
• Proactively identifying optimizations to enhance system performance, availability, and responsiveness.
  
• Architecting robust security structures and designing efficient, scalable data storage solutions.
  
• Leading and mentoring a team of engineers: task assignment, technical guidance, and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  
• Taking ownership of team deliverables and meeting agreed timelines.
  
• Participating in hiring activities, including sourcing, screening, and interviewing engineers.
  
• Supporting onboarding and orientation of new team members.
  
• Providing regular progress updates against goals, KPIs, and addressing roadblocks.
  
• Collaborating with product managers, frontend engineers, and QA teams to deliver new features.
  
• Actively participating in code reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, and fostering a collaborative culture.
  
• Staying current with backend technologies, tools, and trends, and driving adoption of innovations (including AI).
  

Qualifications & Skills

• Education

  : Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or related field.

• Core Expertise

  :
• Strong experience in

  Python development

  .
• Proficiency with

  Django framework

  .
• Experience with

  Object-Relational Mappers (ORMs)

  such as Django ORM or SQLAlchemy.
• Strong knowledge of

  relational databases (Postgres/MySQL)

  – design, complex queries, and optimization.
• Experience with

  NoSQL databases

  (MongoDB/DynamoDB) is highly desirable.
• Hands-on experience in designing and implementing

  RESTful APIs

  and at least one of GraphQL, gRPC, or WebSockets.
• Proficient with

  Git/GitHub

  for version control and collaborative workflows.

• Technical Add-ons (Preferred)

  :
• Experience with

  AWS cloud services

  in production systems.
• Exposure to

  CI/CD pipelines

  and tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
• Familiarity with

  microservices architecture

  and SOA best practices.
• Knowledge of

  shell scripting (bash)

  is a plus.
• Experience with

  AI developer tools

  (Copilot, Cursor, MCP servers, etc.) is a strong advantage.

• Leadership & Process

• Proven experience in

  leading and mentoring software engineers
