Role & responsibilities

IT Technician Cement Plant

The IT Technician will provide technical support, system maintenance, and IT infrastructure management for the cement plant. This role ensures uninterrupted operation of plant automation systems, office IT systems, and communication networks. The technician will troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues and support plant control systems in coordination with the automation team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Support

• Provide onsite support for desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, and mobile devices.
  
• Install, configure, and troubleshoot Windows OS, productivity applications, and industry-specific software.
  
• Respond to user service tickets and maintain logs of issues and resolutions.
  

2. Network & Infrastructure Maintenance

• Maintain LAN/WAN systems, switches, routers, Wi-Fi, and firewall equipment.
  
• Monitor network performance and ensure minimal downtime.
  
• Perform routine system backups and ensure data integrity.
  

3. Plant Systems Support

• Assist automation/PLC/SCADA teams with IT-related integrations (remote access, server support, networking).
  
• Maintain servers, HMIs, industrial PCs, and plant data acquisition systems.
  
• Support communication interfaces between plant equipment and central systems (e.g., OPC, MES, ERP).
  

4. Cybersecurity

• Ensure compliance with plant cybersecurity policies.
  
• Apply security patches, antivirus updates, and user access control procedures.
  
• Monitor and report potential security threats.
  

5. IT Asset Management

• Maintain inventory of all IT hardware/software.
  
• Coordinate repairs, warranty claims, and vendor consultations.
  
• Recommend upgrades for improved performance and reliability.
  

6. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain configuration documentation, network diagrams, and support logs.
  
• Generate periodic IT performance and maintenance reports.
  

Qualifications & Skills

Education

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  

Experience

• 2–5 years of experience as an IT Technician or similar role.
  
• Experience in manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
  
• Familiarity with plant automation systems (SCADA, PLC, DCS) is an advantage.
  

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of Windows OS, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365.
  
• Networking knowledge (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching).
  
• Basic understanding of servers, virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), and backup systems.
  
• Knowledge of industrial PCs, HMIs, and plant communication networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus) is a plus.
  

Soft Skills

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
  
• Ability to work independently in a high-pressure industrial environment.
  
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
  
• Willingness to work in shifts or on-call when required.
  

Working Conditions

• Based at cement plant site.
  
• Requires mobility within plant facilities and occasional outdoor work.
  
• May require support during shutdowns, emergencies, and off-hours.
