Instrumentation Engineer Lead

Position Overview

SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI / Intools)

Key Responsibilities

1. Engineering & Design

• Lead the design and development of instrumentation systems including field instruments, control valves, analyzers, and control system interfaces.
  
• Prepare and check engineering deliverables such as:
  
• Instrument index, I/O list, and instrument datasheets (via SPI).
  
• Loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, hook-up drawings, JB schedule, and cable block diagrams.
  
• Cause & Effect diagrams, control philosophies, and functional design specifications.
  
• Select instrumentation according to project specifications, process data sheets, and industry standards.
  

2. SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) / Intools

• Build and manage SPI databases for FEED and EPC projects.
  
• Develop and maintain instrument index, data sheets, wiring, loops, and I/O lists within SPI.
  
• Generate project deliverables (reports, datasheets, wiring drawings, panel schedules) through SPI modules.
  
• Perform data validation, quality checks, and ensure consistency across all SPI modules.
  
• Set up SPI templates, specifications, catalog databases, and customization for project-specific needs.
  

3. Project Execution & Coordination

• Lead instrumentation engineering activities for FEED, detailed engineering, and commissioning phases.
  
• Coordinate with disciplines such as Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Control Systems, and Civil/Structural.
  
• Review vendor documents and ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
  
• Attend design reviews, HAZOP/HAZID workshops, and provide technical input.
  

4. Standards, Compliance & Quality

• Ensure designs comply with relevant codes and standards (ISA, IEC, NEC, API, ASME, etc.).
  
• Implement company and project-specific procedures for instrumentation and control design.
  
• Conduct design verification, technical audits, and resolve technical issues across the project lifecycle.
  

5. Construction & Commissioning Support

• Provide technical support during installation, inspection, testing, and commissioning.
  
• Review and approve instrumentation installation drawings and vendor packages.
  
• Resolve site queries and support pre-commissioning/commissioning activities such as loop checks, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Electronics, or related engineering discipline.
  
• 515+ years of experience in instrumentation engineering in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Power, or Industrial projects.
  
• Strong hands-on experience in

  SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI / Intools)

  for FEED and EPC deliverables.
• Proficiency in instrumentation design tools and standards.
  
• Experience reviewing vendor documents and engineering deliverables.
  

Preferred Skills

• Experience with DCS/PLC architecture and control system integration.
  
• Familiarity with SmartPlant Foundation (SPF) or SmartPlant P&ID is a plus.
  
• Knowledge of hazardous area classification and SIL/Functional Safety (IEC 61511).
  
• Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
  
• Ability to mentor junior engineers and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
