HVAC Design Engineer

As a Load Estimator specializing in HVAC systems, your primary responsibility will be to perform detailed load estimating using computer software simulation. This includes a thorough understanding of building construction materials, compliance with outdoor air requirements for indoor air quality, and an overall comprehension of internal heat loads such as lights, computers, and equipment. You will be involved in the application and selection of various HVAC equipment, including air handling units, fans, coils, condensing units, and furnaces. Additionally, your role will encompass designing and laying out commercial and industrial duct systems, encompassing supply, return, exhaust, ventilation, and dust collection systems. You will also be responsible for selecting air terminal devices like variable air volume boxes, grilles, diffusers, and louvers. Your expertise will extend to the design, application, and selection of hydronic systems and steam/condensate systems, which may involve chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, and associated system accessories. While general knowledge of HVAC system controls is desirable, familiarity with plumbing design is beneficial but not mandatory. In this position, you will develop construction document packages based on project requirements, coordinate with other disciplines like structural, architectural, and electrical, supervise drafting personnel, and review project construction documents. You will also be responsible for writing job-specific equipment and materials specifications and attending/conducting client meetings to ensure clear understanding of job/owner requirements and expectations. The role may involve project review meetings, construction meetings, and project closeout meetings, as well as project shop drawing and submittal review, and on-site inspections of HVAC system installations.
