Position: Head of Department (HOD) Forensic Science

Reporting to:

Key Responsibilities

1. Academic Leadership

• Lead the planning, development, and revision of

  undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs

  in forensic science
• Ensure curriculum aligns with

  current scientific advancements, legal requirements, and industry standards

• Promote innovative teaching methodologies and interdisciplinary learning

2. Teaching & Mentorship

• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses as assigned
• Mentor faculty members and supervise

  MSc and PhD research scholars

• Support student academic progress, research skills, and ethical conduct

3. Research & Development

• Lead and promote

  research initiatives

  within the department
• Publish research in

  peer-reviewed national and international journals

• Secure external research funding and grants
• Encourage collaborations with research institutions and forensic laboratories

4. Administrative & Operational Management

• Manage departmental budgets, resources, and infrastructure
• Allocate teaching workload and manage faculty schedules
• Ensure timely conduct of examinations, evaluations, and academic reporting
• Prepare departmental reports for university authorities and accreditation bodies

5. Laboratory & Quality Assurance

• Oversee forensic laboratories and ensure compliance with

  safety, quality, and accreditation standards

• Ensure proper handling of forensic equipment, chemicals, and biological materials
• Maintain ethical standards related to evidence handling and data security

6. Faculty & Staff Management

• Recruit, evaluate, and support faculty and technical staff
• Conduct performance reviews and recommend professional development activities
• Foster a collaborative, ethical, and inclusive work environment

7. External Relations & Professional Engagement

• Establish partnerships with

  law enforcement agencies, forensic science laboratories, courts, and industry experts

• Represent the department at academic forums, conferences, and university committees
• Support student internships, field training, and placement opportunities

8. Compliance & Ethics

• Ensure adherence to

  university policies, accreditation norms, and legal regulations

• Uphold academic integrity, research ethics, and impartial scientific practice

Required Qualifications

• PhD in Forensic Science or a closely related discipline

  (Forensic Biology, Chemistry, Toxicology, Digital Forensics, etc.)
• Strong academic record with significant teaching and research experience

Experience

• Minimum

  815 years

  of teaching and research experience in higher education
• Prior experience in academic leadership roles (e.g., Program Coordinator, Senior Faculty) preferred
