Head Quality (General Manager) - Machining

Position : General Manager / Senior General Manager - Quality

Reporting to : AVP Corporate Quality Head

Location: Chakan, Pune

Team Size: around 150 people (Direct 8 to 10)

Business Unit : Machining

Role & responsibilities

1. Quality Leadership & Strategy

• Develop, implement and monitor the Quality Strategy for the machining business unit aligned with organizational objectives.
• Establish a culture of continuous improvement, zero-defect mindset and operational excellence across all plants.
• Drive standardization of quality processes, systems and best practices across all machining facilities.

2. Multi-Plant Quality Management

• Provide oversight for quality operations across multiple manufacturing plants.
• Review plant quality performance, conduct regular audits and guide plant quality leaders in strengthening systems.
• Ensure consistent implementation of quality standards, control plans and inspection methodologies across all facilities.

3. Machining & Technical Expertise

• Offer hands-on technical guidance on machining processes (CNC turning, milling, precision machining etc.).
• Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances and machining specifications to ensure accurate manufacturing.
• Support process validation, capability studies and critical-to-quality (CTQ) parameter monitoring.

4. Customer Quality Management

• Act as the primary escalation point for customer quality concerns and lead customer interactions (domestic & global).
• Understand customer requirements, resolve critical issues and drive structured problem-solving (8D / RCA / CAPA).
• Build strong relationships with Oil & Gas OEMs and ensure high customer satisfaction.

5. Quality Systems & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO 9001, API standards and specific Oil & Gas quality requirements.
• Lead external and internal audits, certification renewals and ensure documentation accuracy.
• Strengthen supplier quality management for raw materials, machining vendors and special process vendors.

6. People Leadership & Capability Building

• Lead, mentor and develop plant quality teams to enhance technical and managerial capability.
• Conduct regular reviews, performance discussions and training for quality & inspection teams.
• Promote teamwork, accountability and high-performance culture across the unit.

Preferred candidate profile

• Strong multi-plant quality leadership experience.
  • Deep expertise in machining processes, tolerances, precision components and defect analysis. • Excellent knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T and machining controls. • Strong knowledge of material science, metallurgy, and special processes. • Hands-on experience in customer problem resolution, quality tools and audits. • Knowledge of standards: API, ASME, ASTM, EN, IS, ISO etc. • Supplier selection, qualification and supplier development exposure. • Proficiency in 8D, PFMEA, MSA, SPC, CAPA and Lean/Continuous Improvement practices. • Strong communication, people management and cross-functional coordination skills. • Experience with Oil & Gas customers or API-standard machining components (preferred). • ASNT NDT Level II certification preferred.

Educational Qualification

• BE / B.Tech in Mechanical / Production / Manufacturing Engineering.
• Additional certifications in Quality Management, Six Sigma, or API standards preferred.
