Job Description

Job Overview:

The Head of Department (HOD) - Boiler Maintenance will lead and manage all maintenance activities related to CFBC and Pulverised Fuel Boilers. The role requires deep technical expertise in high-pressure boiler systems, team leadership for multidisciplinary engineering teams, strategic planning, and execution of preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance. This position oversees installation, inspection, commissioning and quality assurance of mechanical systems and equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operations.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise Managers, Deputy Managers, Engineers, and support staff for site and maintenance operations.
  • Plan manpower and machine utilization aligned with fabrication and erection schedules.
  • Coordinate with interdepartmental teams and vendors to align maintenance strategy with operational goals.
  • Ensure proper work permit systems and site safety protocols are enforced.
  • Oversee installation, inspection, repair, and commissioning of pressure parts, rotary equipment, and static equipment.
  • Conduct daily inspections to ensure operational readiness and equipment health.
  • Ensure compliance with IBR formalities and safety protocols like LOTO, SIMOPS, working at heights, confined space entry, etc.
  • Lead utility piping flushing, hydro-testing, leak testing, drying, and commissioning of process systems.
  • Develop and review SOPs, preventive maintenance schedules, and inspection protocols.
  • Implement CMMS-based maintenance tracking and reporting.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Deep expertise in CFBC & Pulverized Fuel Boiler systems.
  • Strong understanding of static and rotary mechanical equipment, alignment techniques, and pressure part maintenance.
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities and knowledge of RCA techniques.
  • Skilled in planning maintenance and erection sequences for structural, pressure parts, and piping systems.
  • Inventory management, spare part optimization, and shutdown planning.
  • Strong team leadership, mentoring, and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication.

Tools and Technologies:

  • Diagnostic Tools: Pressure Gauges, Vibration Measurement Devices, Laser Alignment Tools, Multimeters.
  • Maintenance Software: CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), SAP PM and MM Modules.
  • IT Proficiency: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Safety & Quality Standards:

  • Familiarity with IBR norms, ASME standards, and site-specific safety regulations.
  • Experience with SIMOPS, LOTO, confined space entry procedures, and high-risk activity management.
  • 5S implementation and continuous improvement culture.
