Manpower Resources India Pvt. Ltd is a leading Executive Search & Selection company, caters to recruitment services in Manufacturing, Infrastructure, Engineering & Healthcare domain. We have been mandated by a large global conglomerate for the below mentioned position.

Position Title : Head Logistics & Dispatch

Location: Jharkhand

Qualification : B.E / B. Tech Mechanical / Electrical with MBA or Diploma in Supply Chain

Experience: 25 - 35 Years

Reporting: Plant Head

The incumbent will be responsible to lead and manage the entire logistics and dispatch function for a large integrated steel plant. The role involves strategic planning, execution, and optimization of dispatch, transportation, and inventory movement for finished steel products, ensuring cost efficiency, on-time delivery, and compliance with statutory and safety standards. The incumbent must have experience in managing large-scale logistics operations (minimum 2000+ truck movements per month or equivalent volume in rail/road/port).

Responsibilities

1. Dispatch & Logistics Operations

  • Plan and manage daily dispatch schedules for finished steel products through road, rail, and port routes.
  • Ensure timely delivery to customers, stockyards, and distribution centers across regions.
  • Oversee loading/unloading operations, weighbridge activities, and vehicle turnaround time (TAT).
  • Manage logistics for inbound and outbound materials ensuring smooth coordination with production and sales teams.
  1. Commercial & Contract Management

  • Manage rate contracts, transport agreements, freight negotiations, and service-level agreements with transporters and logistics partners.
  • Conduct periodic vendor evaluations and drive cost savings through negotiation and optimization.
  • Oversee freight bill verification, approval, and coordination with finance for timely payment.
  • Ensure compliance with commercial terms, taxation (GST, e-way bill, etc.), and statutory documentation requirements.
  1. Weighbridge & Systems Management

  • Oversee weighbridge operations ensuring accuracy, transparency, and integrity in all weight transactions.
  • Implement and monitor weighbridge automation systems for minimizing manual intervention and fraud risk.
  • Audit weighbridge records and ensure data synchronization with ERP systems.
  • Establish proper checks and controls for weighment, reconciliation, and reporting.
  1. Fleet & Transport Management

  • Oversee allocation and scheduling of more than 2000 vehicles per month (road/rail).
  • Develop and manage a reliable vendor base of transporters, freight forwarders, and railways.
  • Negotiate freight rates, contracts, and service-level agreements with transport partners.
  • Monitor fleet utilization, maintenance, and safety compliance.
  1. Cost Optimization & Performance Management

  • Continuously monitor logistics costs and identify cost-reduction opportunities without compromising service quality.
  • Implement KPIs such as freight cost per ton, TAT, OTIF (On Time In Full), and vehicle utilization.
  • Develop dashboards and MIS reports for management review.
  1. Strategic Planning & Process Improvement

  • Formulate and execute logistics strategy aligned with business objectives and sales plans.
  • Drive digitization and automation in logistics operations (GPS tracking, dispatch management systems, SAP/ERP).
  • Optimize inventory holding, dispatch planning, and logistics network to improve efficiency.
  1. Team Leadership & Coordination

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team comprising dispatch supervisors, logistics planners, weighbridge staff, and transport coordinators.
  • Collaborate with marketing, sales, production, and finance teams to ensure seamless order fulfillment.
  • Train and develop team members in logistics best practices and compliance norms.
  1. Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure adherence to statutory norms (RTO, GST, E-way bills, railway norms, etc.).
  • Implement and monitor safety protocols in loading/unloading and material handling areas.
  • Coordinate with internal audit and compliance teams for documentation and system adherence.
