Job Description

Key Responsibilities of a Billing Head in a Hospital

1. Billing & Revenue Cycle Management

  • Oversee patient billing for OPD, IPD, emergency, and day-care services
  • Ensure accurate charge capture for consultations, procedures, investigations, and pharmacy
  • Monitor end-to-end Revenue Cycle Management (RCM)

2. Insurance, TPA & Corporate Billing

  • Manage cashless and reimbursement claims with insurance companies and TPAs
  • Ensure proper documentation for pre-authorizations and claims submission
  • Resolve claim denials, short payments, and rejections
  • Coordinate with corporate clients and empaneled organizations

3. Compliance & Accuracy

  • Ensure billing complies with hospital policies, insurance rules, and legal requirements
  • Prevent billing errors, fraud, and revenue leakage
  • Stay updated with healthcare billing regulations and taxation rules (e.g., GST where applicable)

4. Team Leadership & Training

  • Lead, supervise, and train billing, insurance, and front-desk billing teams
  • Set performance targets and KPIs for billing staff
  • Ensure smooth coordination between billing, clinical, pharmacy, and finance departments

5. Financial Control & Reporting

  • Monitor daily collections, outstanding receivables, and aging reports
  • Prepare MIS reports on billing performance and revenue trends
  • Support audits and management reviews

6. Patient Communication & Service

  • Address patient and attendant billing queries and grievances
  • Ensure transparency and clarity in billing explanations
  • Support patient satisfaction while maintaining financial discipline

7. Systems & Process Improvement

  • Oversee Hospital Information System (HIS) billing modules
  • Implement process improvements to enhance billing efficiency
  • Ensure correct coding and tariff updates in the system

8. Cost Control & Revenue Optimization

  • Identify revenue leakage and implement corrective measures
  • Ensure optimal pricing and package compliance
  • Support management in improving hospital profitability

9. Coordination with Finance & Management

  • Work closely with finance, accounts, and internal audit teams
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting revenue
  • Provide insights to hospital leadership for strategic decisions
