Overview
The AI Specialist will lead the design, development, and implementation of Artificial Intelligence solutions that enhance teaching, learning, research, and administrative operations across the institution. This role combines technical expertise with an understanding of academic workflows to drive digital transformation, improve student outcomes, and increase operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate will work with academic teams, IT, researchers, and leadership stakeholders to identify AI opportunities, build prototypes, deploy production-ready systems, and promote responsible AI adoption aligned with institutional policies.
Key Responsibilities
AI Strategy & Innovation
- Contribute to the development of the GEDUs AI roadmap aligned with academic and operational goals.
- Identify high-impact AI use cases for student success, admissions, academic support, research enablement, and automation.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and propose scalable solutions.
Solution Design & Development
- Build, fine-tune, and deploy machine learning and generative AI models for use cases such as automated student support, predictive analytics, content generation, and academic analytics.
- Design and maintain AI pipelines, including data ingestion, model training, evaluation, and monitoring.
- Integrate AI solutions with existing systems (LMS/Moodle, SIS/Thesis, CRM/Zoho, ERP, HR systems, and data warehouse).
Data Management & Engineering
- Work closely with Data & Analytics teams to ensure availability of clean, structured, and secure datasets.
- Collaborate on data governance, privacy, ethical AI, and compliance with regulations (GDPR, FERPA-equivalent guidelines).
- Implement feature engineering, model versioning, and MLOps best practices.
AI for Teaching & Learning
- Support academic staff in using AI tools for course design, assessment, personalized learning pathways, and content creation.
- Provide training materials, workshops, and best-practice guidelines to academic and professional services teams.
- Collaborate on AI-enhanced learning analytics models to improve student retention and performance.
Operational AI & Automation
- Develop AI-driven automations to streamline admissions, marketing, student support, and internal operations.
- Build chatbots, knowledge assistants, and process automations using LLMs, RPA, or workflow engines.
- Support AI adoption across departments through prototypes and proof-of-concept projects.
Governance & Ethical AI
- Ensure responsible and transparent AI practices across the institution.
- Contribute to AI usage policies, risk assessments, and security frameworks.
- Promote fairness, bias detection, and responsible data handling.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of machine learning, deep earning, and generative AI (LLMs).
- Hands-on experience with Python,TensorFlow/ PyTorch, LangChain, Azure OpenAI/ OpenAI APIs, or similar.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud (Azure preferred in HE).
- Experience deploying AI models in production sing MLOps frameworks.
- Knowledge of data pipelines, ETL, SQL, data warehousing, and API integrations.
Higher Education Experience (preferred)
- Familiarity with academic processes: admissions, student lifecycle, assessments, LMS, timetabling, student retention, and research workflows.
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Collaborative mindset, capable of working with IT, academics, and leadership.
- Problem-solving and innovation-focused approach.
Desirable Experience
- Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Certifications in cloud AI, data engineering, or machine learning (Azure AI Engineer, AWS ML Specialist, etc.) desirable.
- Experience in higher education or research environment is an advantage.
