Job Description

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Manage inbound and outbound logistics operations including bulk raw material handling via rail and road.
  • Oversee railway siding management, inward/outward rake handling, and indent planning.
  • Coordinate with port offices for timely movement of imported raw materials to the plant.
  • Liaise with suppliers, mines offices, and transporters to ensure smooth material movement by rail and road.
  • Conduct tenders and finalize contracts for transportation of raw materials and finished goods.
  • Define scope of work for handling and transportation contractors engaged in rail and road logistics.
  • Liaison with government officials such as Mining offices, Railways for statutory compliance and permissions.
  • Coordinate daily with raw material suppliers, transporters, handling contractors, and inspection agencies to improve quantity and quality of deliveries.
  • Ensure timely supply of materials from various suppliers and implement process improvements in logistics management.
  • Evaluate contract and transporter performance periodically, conduct rate analysis, and manage vendor development programs.
  • Plan, manage, and control all logistics-related activities, including freight negotiation and coordination with railways and transporters.
  • Perform logistics cost analysis and coordinate with local truck associations to ensure timely truck availability.
  • Work closely with finance and accounts teams for vendor payments and with marketing/production for dispatch planning.
  • Manage in-plant weighbridges to ensure accurate material weighment.
  • Lead all logistics functions including cargo planning, storage, distribution, payment realization, customer support, and transporter negotiations for cost-effective solutions and clearances.
  • Establish and maintain storage infrastructure ensuring smooth warehouse operations and optimum inventory levels for cost savings.
  • Implement standard operating procedures to maintain service quality and efficiency while resolving logistics concerns.
  • Manage relationships with vendors, transporters, shipping lines, and freight forwarders from order placement to shipment delivery ensuring quality service.
  • Optimize logistics processes using analytical models for cost reduction and achieving organizational goals.
  • Exhibit strong leadership in managing logistics operations in fast-paced environments while meeting organizational targets.
  • Negotiate and manage long-term contracts with service providers for domestic and export logistics.
  • Define and enforce policies and processes for unit-level logistics operations with effective monitoring and control.
  • Strategize and oversee EXIM and domestic logistics to ensure timely raw material availability and dispatch of finished goods with maximum customer satisfaction and optimum cost.
  • Explore multimodal transport options for cost and lead time reduction, particularly for the Odisha plant.
  • Ensure cost optimization by reducing demurrage, detention, and transport costs.
  • Align export and import activities for optimal utilization of resources, infrastructure, and manpower.
  • Monitor and control vendors to maintain a capable vendor pool supporting logistics operations.
  • Generate timely MIS reports to identify improvements, develop alternative strategies, and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage and develop the logistics team to maintain high engagement, competency, and performance.
  • Interact with transporters for daily vehicle placements, follow-ups, and timely deliveries to customers.
