Plant care: Plant new flowers, trees, and shrubs while consistently monitoring the health of existing flora. Landscape maintenance: Perform regular maintenance, such as mowing, trimming, mulching, and weeding beds and lawns. Watering and irrigation: Water plants as needed and manage irrigation or sprinkler systems to ensure proper hydration. Pest and disease control: Identify and treat common pests, diseases, and other issues affecting plant health. Equipment operation: Safely operate and maintain a variety of tools and machinery, including mowers, trimmers, and pruning saws. Grounds cleanup: Keep the garden and walkways free of litter, debris, and fallen leaves. Design and planning (for advanced roles): Work with management or clients to design garden layouts and select appropriate plants. Record keeping: Maintain records of daily tasks, maintenance schedules, and materials used.  Skills and qualifications Horticultural knowledge: In-depth understanding of plants, soil types, fertilizers, and gardening techniques. Physical stamina: The ability to perform manual labor for extended periods in various weather conditions. Manual dexterity: Skill in using hand tools and operating gardening equipment. Problem-solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve issues such as plant diseases or pest infestations. Attention to detail: A keen eye for noticing small issues and maintaining a manicured appearance. Communication: Interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members or communicate with clients. Experience: Previous experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance is often required, particularly for specialized roles. Location: Gardeners primarily work outdoors and may be exposed to varying weather conditions, including sun, rain, heat, and cold. Physical demands: The job involves significant physical effort, including heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, and standing for long periods. Work schedule: Schedules may vary seasonally, with peak work during the growing season and different tasks during the fall and winter.
