Fabrication Engineer

Job Description Supervise and coordinate daily fabrication operations including cutting, bending, welding, and assembly of sheet metal components for DG sets. Ensure proper implementation of MIG and TIG welding techniques with emphasis on quality and safety. Oversee operations of laser cutting machines and CNC bending machines , and ensure machine settings and programs are optimized for productivity and accuracy. Monitor and maintain standards in surface preparation , shot blasting , and industrial painting processes (powder coating and wet paint). Ensure fabricated components meet design specifications, tolerances, and surface finish requirements. Work closely with design and quality teams to resolve fabrication-related issues and implement corrective actions. Support new product development by assisting in prototype fabrication and process improvement. Maintain compliance with safety protocols, welding standards, and company procedures. Prepare and maintain fabrication process documentation, daily reports, and manpower utilization records. Train operators and welders to improve skills and ensure adherence to quality standards. Required Skills and Qualifications: Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering . Minimum of 5 years experience in sheet metal fabrication in a manufacturing environment (preferably in DG Set, automotive, or heavy engineering industries). Proven expertise in: MIG & TIG welding Laser cutting and CNC bending Painting processes (powder coating, liquid painting) Shot blasting Strong knowledge of fabrication standards, GD&T, and mechanical drawings. Familiar with quality inspection tools, weld testing, and fabrication defect analysis. Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD or SolidWorks (basic), and production reporting tools. Strong team leadership, communication, and time management skills. Preferred Attributes: Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or Kaizen practices. Experience in DG set manufacturing or heavy fabrication industry will be a strong advantage. Ability to manage third-party vendors or contract labor involved in fabrication.
