Job Description

As a Human Factors Engineer 3 at Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies, you will be a key player in designing medical devices that support blood and cell therapies. Your role will involve leading human-centered design initiatives to ensure the safety, intuitiveness, and effectiveness of products for both clinicians and patients. Collaborating with various teams including R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Clinical, you will conduct user research, usability testing, and risk assessments to optimize device interfaces and workflows. If you are passionate about innovation, improving patient outcomes, and thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, this is an opportunity for you to make a significant impact in healthcare. **Essential Duties:** - Lead the strategy, planning, and execution of human factors engineering activities for product development projects. - Conduct user-centered research including interviews, contextual inquiries, task analyses, and anthropomorphic evaluations. - Ensure compliance with HFE processes, Company policies, IEC Usability standards, AAMI Human Factors standards, and FDA Human Factors Guidances. - Analyze field data, review literature, and identify usability issues with on-market products. - Collaborate in prototype development of user interfaces, including software, graphical user-interface, hardware, and labeling. - Support the development of internal tools for human factors data capture, analysis, and testing. - Contribute to identifying and developing design and development process improvements. - Reinforce customer empathy and human-centered design approach across the organization. **Responsibilities may include:** - Providing work direction to technicians and junior engineers. - Collaborating with other functional groups, technical disciplines, and levels of management. **Minimum Qualification Requirements:** - **Education:** Bachelor's degree in Usability/Human Factors Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related research-based degree preferred. - **Experience:** Minimum 4 years of experience in Human Factors/Usability in medical devices preferred. - **Skills:** Strong technical leadership skills, knowledge of human factors, design controls, quality, and risk management regulations for medical devices, ability to influence without authority, innovative in user-centered design approaches, strong problem-solving skills, and effective communication skills. **Location:** Thiruvananthapuram, India - Onsite. **Travel:** Requires travel based on business needs. **Physical Requirements:** General Labor Environment requirements include the use of personal protective equipment, reading, speaking, hearing, walking, bending, standing, stretching/reaching, hand/finger dexterity, and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
