Dryer Operator - Distillery Industry

Position: Dryer Operator

Department: Production / DDGS Operations

Reporting To: Shift Incharge / Production Manager

1. Job Summary

The Dryer Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the DDGS dryer system in a grain-based distillery. The role ensures efficient drying of Wet Cake (DWGS) into DDGS, optimal equipment performance, minimal downtime, and adherence to quality, safety, and environmental standards.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Operations & Monitoring

• Operate DDGS dryer (Flash Dryer / Ring Dryer / Rotary Dryer / Steam Tube Dryer) as per SOP.
• Maintain consistent moisture levels in final DDGS product.
• Monitor parameters such as temperature, steam pressure, feed rate, air flow, and cyclone performance.
• Maintain stable operation of evaporator, centrifuge, decanter, and related equipment.
• Perform start-up, shutdown, and routine checks of the dryer system.

B. Quality Control

• Ensure product quality meets specified moisture, color, and protein standards.
• Take hourly samples and record observations.
• Report deviations to Shift Incharge immediately and take corrective actions.

C. Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• Conduct routine cleaning and minor preventive maintenance of dryer and auxiliary equipment.
• Identify issues such as choking, abnormal vibration, motor overload, or temperature fluctuations.
• Coordinate with maintenance teams during breakdowns and support troubleshooting.

D. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain logbooks on parameters, production output, and downtime.
• Report shift performance, raw material consumption, and product recovery.
• Record any abnormalities or safety incidents.

E. Safety, Hygiene & Compliance

• Follow all safety guidelines for working with high-temperature equipment.
• Use PPE (gloves, masks, safety shoes, helmets) at all times.
• Ensure housekeeping around dryer area (zero spillage, no leakages).
• Comply with environmental norms regarding emissions and waste handling.

3. Skills & Competencies Required

• Knowledge of DDGS, DWGS handling, and distillery by-product operations.
• Basic understanding of mechanical & operational systems.
• Ability to monitor multiple parameters and react quickly to deviations.
• Strong attention to detail and safety commitment.
• Basic computer literacy for log entry.

4. Education & Experience

• Qualification: ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Production, or relevant field.
• Experience: 1–4 years in Distillery Dryer / DDGS operations preferred.
• Experience with Ring Dryer / Flash Dryer / Rotary Dryer added advantage.

Pay: ₹8,630.91 - ₹29,961.56 per month
