Job Description

Role Overview: As the Divisional Manager/HOD for Mechanical Design in the Defence & Aerospace industry, you will be responsible for leading the mechanical engineering function for advanced defence and aerospace systems. Your role will involve driving the design, development, and qualification of ruggedized enclosures, mechanical packaging, thermal management, and structural solutions for mission-critical avionics and display products. It is essential to shape the technology direction, ensure compliance with defence standards, manage cross-functional programs, and build a high-performing team aligned with organizational goals. Key Responsibilities: - Define and execute the mechanical engineering roadmap aligned with defence program needs. - Build, mentor, and lead a multi-disciplinary mechanical design team focusing on innovation and excellence. - Establish best practices in mechanical engineering such as DFMA, DTC, ruggedization, and reliability. - Oversee the mechanical packaging design of avionics displays and other defence products. - Ensure structural and thermal integrity through advanced analysis using tools like FEA, CFD, vibration, and shock analysis. - Drive EMI/EMC management aspects related to mechanical packaging. - Lead design reviews, requirement analysis, and verification planning. - Coordinate with electrical, electronics, optics, and systems teams for integrated solutions. - Manage outsourced design/fabrication partners and vendor development for CNC, sheet metal, injection moulding, die-casting, and coatings. - Ensure timely delivery of prototypes, fixtures, and qualification models. - Ensure design compliance with MIL-STD, DO-160, JSS-55555, ASTM, and aerospace design standards. - Guide environmental testing including vibration, thermal cycling, humidity, and IP67 compliance. - Introduce new materials, thermal solutions, and manufacturing techniques for innovation. - Lead value engineering and obsolescence management for mechanical systems. Qualifications Required: - Bachelors/Masters in Mechanical Engineering from a reputed institute. - 12-15 years of experience, with at least 5-7 years in leadership roles in defence/aerospace product design. - Proven track record in avionics packaging, structural/thermal design, and defence-grade system qualification. - Expertise in CAD/CAE tools like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, Creo, ANSYS, Flowtherm, and Nastran. - Strong knowledge of mechanical processes including machining, casting, molding, welding, and coatings. - Experience in managing cross-functional defence projects from concept to production.,
