Description
You will be responsible for the following tasks as a Development Executive at Lava Media: Role Overview: Lava Media creates compelling stories for global audiences across films, series, and documentaries, and has recently produced the Oscar and BAFTA-nominated film, The White Tiger. With multiple international projects in the pipeline, we are dedicated to telling bold and exciting stories. Key Responsibilities: - Read and evaluate scripts, treatments, and pitch materials, providing insightful notes. - Support the development of film & TV projects from concept to packaging. - Track global storytelling trends and identify commercial and critical opportunities. - Assist in identifying and acquiring IP such as books, articles, real-life stories, and international formats. - Collaborate with writers to develop and refine screenplays to ensure high creative standards. Talent & Industry Engagement: - Develop and maintain relationships with emerging and established writers, directors, and producers. - Research and connect with international studios, agencies, and production companies. - Represent Lava Media in meetings with Hollywood and global industry professionals. Market Research & Competitive Analysis: - Stay updated on Hollywood and global industry trends, including box office reports, streaming insights, and content acquisitions. - Track competitive projects and provide reports on market trends for informed development decisions. - Monitor film festivals and industry trade news for new opportunities. Studio & Production Collaboration: - Work with the internal team to develop pitch materials, bibles, and story decks. - Assist in the packaging process by identifying potential casting, directors, and creative partners. - Support the team in scheduling meetings and liaising with international industry players. Qualifications Required: - 3-5 years of experience in a development role at a studio, production company, or streamer. - Strong script reading and analysis skills to provide clear and constructive feedback. - Awareness of Hollywood industry structures, talent agencies, and major production companies. - Ability to identify projects with strong international appeal. - A network within the film & TV industry, with the ability to build relationships in Hollywood and beyond. - Passion for global storytelling and understanding of international audience preferences. - Excellent communication and presentation skills. Preferred Skills: - Knowledge of IP rights, acquisitions, and adaptations. - Familiarity with Hollywood deal structures and script development processes. - Interest in co-productions and international financing models. - Understanding of major film festivals and markets such as Cannes, Berlinale, Sundance, and TIFF.
