POSITION SUMMARY for Seal Design Engineer

The Designer is responsible for modeling and documenting the products and equipment while executing the change management process. This position will work within the engineering team to document new products and tooling, as well as process changes in pursuit of improved OEE and customer satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Engineering Design Support Specialist will provide comprehensive engineering and production design support to enhance product development, improve manufacturing processes, and ensure efficient, high-quality output. This role requires strong technical expertise, project management skills, and effective communication across multiple departments and stakeholders. Utilize established practices for change management, documentation and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop new seals as per customer drawing / molds cavity for seals and revise existing designs to meet customer specifications, improve efficiency, and minimize waste.
• Provide engineering support for both new product development and ongoing production needs.
• Drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes through design innovation and optimization.
• Apply expertise in moulding processes, extrusion tooling, rubber flow dynamics, machine selection, PPAP, and APQP.
• Design and develop jigs, fixtures, and tooling for part testing, loading/unloading, and forming operations.
• Evaluate tooling development costs and support cost estimation activities.
• Create, maintain, and validate engineering documentation and ERP data to align with product specifications and manufacturing standards.
• Mentor team members in CAD/drafting techniques and support cross-functional engineering teams.
• Manage engineering design control systems and oversee related project management activities.
• Maintain effective communication with engineering, production, management, suppliers, and customers.
• Stay current with advancements in manufacturing, engineering standards, and design technologies.
• Lead design and development of test fixtures, gauges, and specialized tooling for moulded and formed products.
• Utilize formal change management procedures to implement process and design improvements.
• Participate in DFMEA and PFMEA activities to ensure robust product and process designs.
• Collaborate with internal teams and customers to design components and support manufacturing readiness.
• Assist in documenting patentable innovations, particularly in spin forming and tooling processes.
• Generate detailed technical drawings and documentation following GD&T standards.
• Coordinate with Engineering and IT teams to manage and enhance change management and PLM systems.
• Manage updates to product routings and part setups in SAP, while continuously expanding SAP proficiency.
• Maintain and develop expertise in CAD modelling, drafting, and geometric tolerancing through ongoing training and industry engagement.
• Knowledge of IATF standards

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• 5-7 years design experience with Bachelors Degree in Engineering Preferred
• Intermediate knowledge in using design and engineering tools, including:
• ACAD
• SolidWorks and/or Inventor
• ERP Systems
• Engineering GD&T standards
