Position Name:

Role Objective:

To lead the Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) function of a 0.75 MTPA Steel Melting Shop, ensuring safe, reliable, and energy-efficient operations of furnaces, secondary metallurgy, and continuous casting facilities. The role drives advanced maintenance practices, automation, and technology adoption to achieve uninterrupted steelmaking operations and sustainable performance.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership & Planning

    • Formulate long-term E&I strategies for reliable and efficient SMS operations.
    • Develop automation, digitalization, and predictive maintenance roadmaps.
    • Plan budgets, manpower, and resources for E&I activities.
  • Operations & Maintenance

    • Ensure reliable operation and maintenance of all E&I systems in:
      • Primary Steelmaking: Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) / Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF).
      • Secondary Metallurgy: Ladle Furnace (LF), Vacuum Degasser (VD/VOD).
      • Continuous Casting Machines (CCM).
      • Overhead cranes, conveyors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
      • Substations, rectifiers, transformers, and power distribution systems.
    • Drive preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance.
    • Troubleshoot complex electrical, automation, and instrumentation issues.
  • Automation & Process Control

    • Oversee PLC/DCS/SCADA control systems for furnaces, ladles, and casting.
    • Ensure integration of Level-1 and Level-2 automation for steelmaking and casting.
    • Drive adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies (IoT monitoring, analytics, digital twins).
  • Projects & Modernization

    • Lead E&I scope in SMS projects, expansions, and modernization.
    • Review engineering designs, specifications, and vendor compliance.
    • Oversee commissioning, system integration, and performance validation.
  • Safety, Environment & Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with statutory electrical safety and factory laws.
    • Build a strong EHS culture with focus on zero-incident performance.
    • Implement ISO certifications (9001, 14001, 45001, 50001).
    • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
  • Energy & Cost Optimization

    • Monitor and optimize power consumption in furnaces, ladles, and CCM.
    • Implement reactive power management, load balancing, and energy efficiency initiatives.
    • Optimize spares, vendor management, and cost of ownership.
  • People & Team Leadership

    • Lead, mentor, and develop managers, engineers, and technicians.
    • Enhance competencies through training and exposure to emerging technologies.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, discipline, and continuous improvement.
  • Stakeholder Coordination

    • Collaborate with Production, Mechanical, Refractory, Utilities, and Projects teams.
    • Manage OEMs, service providers, and contractors.
    • Represent E&I in audits, reviews, and management forums.
  • General Responsibilities

    • Foster a respectful and inclusive work environment, free from harassment and discrimination.
    • Ensure customer focus and compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Drive process effectiveness, incident reporting, and workplace safety.
    • Contribute to environmental compliance, pollution prevention, and energy objectives.

  • Knowledge of process instrumentation (flow, temperature, pressure, level, emissions)
  • Strong focus on safety, energy efficiency, and sustainability

Qualification & Experience:

  • Education:

    B.E./B.Tech in Electrical / Instrumentation Engineering (PG in Power Systems / Automation preferred).
  • Experience:

    16 to 25 years Experience in Steel Melting Shop (SMS).
