Job Description Position Name: DGM Electrical & Instrumentation (Blast Furnace) Department: Electrical & Instrumentation Reporting to: GM Blast Furnace Role Objective: To lead and manage the entire Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) function of a 0.75 MTPA Blast Furnace, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations through robust maintenance practices, automation, and technology adoption, thereby supporting uninterrupted iron-making operations, asset sustainability, and productivity enhancement. Role Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership & Planning Formulate and implement strategies for reliable, safe, and efficient E&I operations of the Blast Furnace and associated auxiliaries. Drive modernization, automation, and digital transformation (Industry 4.0, predictive maintenance, IoT-enabled monitoring). Develop annual E&I budgets, energy management plans, and cost optimization strategies. Operations & Maintenance Ensure high availability of all electrical and instrumentation systems including: Blowers, compressors, hydraulic systems, and cooling systems Gas cleaning plants (GCP) and pollution control systems Stoves, cast house equipment, and slag granulation units Power distribution systems, substations, and protection devices PLC/DCS/SCADA and advanced automation systems Oversee preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs to reduce downtime. Implement best practices for reliability and asset management. Project & Technology Upgradation Provide technical leadership for new projects, expansions, and retrofitting of E&I systems in the Blast Furnace. Review engineering designs, technical specifications, and vendor compliance. Lead commissioning, performance testing, and system integration. Introduce advanced automation, energy efficiency solutions, and process control systems. Safety, Statutory & Compliance Ensure compliance with statutory electrical safety regulations, hazardous area standards, and factory laws. Drive EHS culture across the E&I workforce. Implement ISO certifications ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 50001 within the E&I domain. Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and implement corrective measures. Energy & Cost Optimization Monitor and optimize energy consumption across Blast Furnace operations. Implement power factor correction, harmonic control, and energy conservation measures. Drive cost reduction through innovative maintenance practices, vendor development, and spares management. People & Team Leadership Lead and mentor a team of managers, engineers, and technicians. Build technical capabilities through training, upskilling, and cross-functional exposure. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation. Stakeholder & Cross-functional Coordination Collaborate with Production, Mechanical, Utilities, Projects, and Corporate E&I teams for integrated plant performance. Manage OEMs, contractors, and service providers to ensure reliable and timely support. Represent E&I function in management reviews, audits, and strategic initiatives. Key Competencies & Skills Required: Strong expertise in Blast Furnace E&I systems (blowers, GCP, stoves, cast house, utilities). In-depth knowledge of HV/MV/LV electrical systems, substations, transformers, and protection systems. Proven experience in PLC/DCS/SCADA systems (Siemens, ABB, Allen Bradley preferred). Strong background in automation, instrumentation calibration, and control systems. Leadership and decision-making capabilities with problem-solving skills. Sound understanding of statutory regulations, safety standards, and ISO frameworks.
