Position Name:
Role Objective:
To lead and manage the Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) function of the 0.75 MTPA Wire Rod Mill, ensuring high equipment availability, energy-efficient operations, process automation, and compliance with safety and quality standards. The role supports smooth rolling operations while achieving productivity, quality, and cost targets.
Role Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Planning
- Define and implement long-term E&I strategies for reliable mill operations.
- Develop modernization, automation, and digitalization roadmaps aligned with business goals.
- Plan budgets, manpower, and resources for optimum utilization.
Operations & Maintenance
- Ensure reliable functioning of E&I systems in:
- Rolling stands (roughing, intermediate, finishing).
- Laying heads, pinch rolls, loopers, conveyors.
- Coilers, shears, cooling conveyors.
- Substations, transformers, switchgear, rectifiers, and power distribution.
- Drives (DC/AC), motors, control panels, protection systems.
- Implement preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs.
- Troubleshoot major electrical, automation, and instrumentation issues.
Automation & Process Control
- Manage and upgrade Level-1 & Level-2 automation systems.
- Maintain and enhance PLC/DCS/SCADA systems for rolling, handling, and utilities.
- Integrate process instrumentation (temperature, speed, vibration, load, dimensional controls).
- Drive Industry 4.0 initiatives – IoT monitoring, analytics, predictive maintenance.
Projects & Modernization
- Lead E&I scope in revamping, upgrades, and capacity enhancement projects.
- Review designs, technical specifications, and vendor performance.
- Oversee commissioning, integration, and acceptance trials.
Safety, Environment & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, electrical safety codes, and factory norms.
- Implement ISO certifications (9001, 14001, 45001, 50001).
- Conduct audits, hazard assessments, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance of mill emission monitoring instrumentation.
Energy & Cost Optimization
- Monitor and optimize power consumption in drives, auxiliaries, and utilities.
- Implement energy-saving projects and reactive power management.
- Control O&M costs through vendor development and spares optimization.
People & Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and upskill engineers, supervisors, and technicians.
- Conduct training on automation, diagnostics, and safety.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Collaborate with Production, Mechanical, Utilities, and Corporate E&I teams.
- Manage OEMs, contractors, and service providers for technical support and AMCs.
- Represent E&I in audits, reviews, and performance forums.

Key Skills:
- Expertise in Wire Rod Mill E&I systems, rolling mill drives, and automation
- Hands-on experience with HV/MV/LV systems, drives (Siemens, ABB, Danieli, VAI)
- Proficiency in PLC/DCS/SCADA and Level-2 automation for rolling mills
- Knowledge of process instrumentation (speed sensors, loopers, temperature, vibration monitoring)

Qualification & Experience:
Education:
B.E./B.Tech in Electrical / Instrumentation Engineering (PG in Automation / Power Systems preferred).Experience:
16 to 25 Years Experience in Wire Rod Mills (WRM).
