Job Description

The Development Engineer is responsible for Turbocharger Development includes base Product for applications for Light and/or Commercial vehicle engines with end-to-end ownership from concept definition to Series of production which includes:

Role & responsibilities

1. Create robust technical solutions and responses to customer RFQs, Proto sample development & testing, APQP, DVP&R, Engineering Release (Drawing / tech report etc. )

2. Drive cost reduction/ localization ideas, Lead product launch & Field issue resolution.

3. Coordinate with CFT (Sales, Program Management, Quality, Supply chain, Manufacturing Engineering etc.) for successfully launch of project from Initial offering to till SOP

4. Review and check of 3D models and 2D drawings of turbocharger components, assemblies, and sub-assemblies in accordance with Garrett design standards.

5. Ensuring fit & function of all components and assemblies.

6. Follow NPI process in close coordination Sales, Program Management, Supply Base, Manufacturing Engineering and Product Design.

7. Drive DFM , APQP and risk assessment

8. Own and ensure timely engineering readiness Packaging, Design, Validation and Reports. Preparation, review and release of Engineering Bill Of Materials (BoM)

9. Ensure 1st time right designs. Work with proto shop for on time-every time” test hardware.

10. Own and deliver DVP&R for respective programs. Identify, Manage and Mitigate risks.

11. Own and resolve Launch issues. Support Field issue resolution via qualified and proven solutions. Use Garrett reliability tools and six-sigma approach for problem solving.

12. Support organization on innovation, VA/VE, and standardization initiatives.

13. Support customer team on technical presentations, transactional pricing, and other reviews.

14. Review and checking of 3D models, 2D drawings and stack up of full products, assemblies, and subassemblies according to Garrett design standards and ASME.

15. To drive activities (design, FEA, CFD, APQP, etc.) for development of turbocharger technologies, as part of new product development and customer launch.

16. Design, simulate & qualify the turbocharger components and assemblies to meet internal validation requirements and customer needs.

3. Education / Qualifications

BE/ME/MTech in Mechanical / Automobile engineering.

4. Experience

1. Min. 5 years

2. Preferably in automotive industry.

3. Experience in automotive, mechanical design or testing as a product/ application engineer is preferred

5. Key Skills and Knowledge

1. Automotive domain knowledge included knowledge of IC engines, Air/Fuel management systems, Engine test procedures and results analysis.

2. Knowledge on instrumentations and sensors.

3. Knowledge of casting, machining, stamping processes, GD&T etc.

4. Good analytical capabilities, good verbal and written communication (in English), presence of mind and technical negotiations skills, problem solving and continuous learning attitude

5. Excellent knowledge of MS tools (Excel, ppt must)

6. Fluent in English, both speaking and writing.
