Role Summary

SQL Server & Oracle Database Administrator

Key Responsibilities

1. SQL Server Administration

• Install, configure, and maintain

  SQL Server (2014/2016/2019/2022)

  instances.
• Manage

  Always On Availability Groups

  , Log Shipping, Replication, and Failover Clustering.
• Monitor SQL Agent jobs, server health checks, and performance metrics.
• Perform query optimization, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis.
• Manage SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) and version upgrades.

2. Oracle Database Administration

• Install, configure, and maintain

  Oracle 11g/12c/19c

  databases.
• Manage

  RAC

  , Data Guard, ASM, and backup schedules.
• Monitor tablespaces, SGA/PGA, alert logs, and AWR reports.
• Optimize performance using SQL Tuning Advisor, indexing, and query analysis.
• Support Oracle patching, migrations, and upgrades.

3. Backup, Recovery & DR

• Manage full, differential, and transaction log backups.
• Implement and test

  Disaster Recovery (DR)

  procedures.
• Develop recovery strategies for both SQL Server and Oracle.
• Maintain RPO/RTO standards for business continuity.

4. Security, Compliance & Audits

• Implement role-based access control (RBAC) and manage user privileges.
• Enforce encryption, auditing, and secure configurations.
• Ensure compliance with:

• RBI guidelines

• Data localization norms

• ISO 27001, ITGC Controls

• Prepare audit artefacts, DB access logs, and change records.

5. Performance & Monitoring

• Diagnose and resolve:
• Blocking/locking
• Deadlocks
• Slow queries
• CPU/memory bottlenecks
• Use monitoring tools like:
• SolarWinds, Redgate, Idera, OEM, AWR/ASH Reports
• Evaluate and implement indexing & partitioning strategies.

6. Data Management & Application Support

• Support developers with query optimization and schema design.
• Manage ETL processes, SSIS packages, and data import/export.
• Coordinate with application teams using LOS/LMS/CRM/Collections systems.
• Troubleshoot prod issues in collaboration with Dev, QA, and Infra teams.

7. Documentation & Governance

• Maintain DB architecture diagrams, SOPs, DR documents, and configuration inventories.
• Ensure versioning, migration scripts, and deployment checklists are updated.
• Participate in change management and release activities.

Technical Skills Required

SQL Server

• SQL Server 2014/2016/2019/2022
• T-SQL & stored procedure development
• Always On AG, Mirroring, Log Shipping, Replication
• SQL Server Agent, SSIS, SSRS
• Query tuning & performance optimization

Oracle

• Oracle 11g/12c/19c
• PL/SQL
• RAC, Data Guard, ASM
• AWR, ASH, ADDM analysis
• RMAN backup & recovery

Common Skills

• CI/CD knowledge for DB deployments
• Scripting (PowerShell, Shell, Python optional)
• Understanding of cloud databases (Azure SQL, AWS RDS, OCI – optional)
• Experience in large transactional systems (NBFC/Microfinance/BFSI preferred)

Soft Skills

• Strong troubleshooting & analytical ability
• Clear communication with business, audit, and IT teams
• Ability to work under pressure and handle production issues
• Good documentation and process discipline
• Ability to mentor junior DBAs

Education

• Bachelor’s/Master’s in Computer Science, IT, or related fields
• Certifications preferred:
• Microsoft Certified: Azure/SQL DBA
• Oracle OCP/OCA
