Role & responsibilities Job Title: Costing Engineer Plastic & Glass Parts (Commercial Vehicle Domain) Experience: 4–5 Years Location: Chennai Industry: Automotive / Commercial Vehicles Department: Cost Engineering / Product Engineering Key Responsibilities: Perform should-cost estimation for plastic and glass components such as headlamps, tail lamps, wiper blades, washer tanks, mirrors, and windows . Analyze Bill of Materials (BoM) , part drawings, and CAD data to estimate tooling, manufacturing, and assembly costs. Evaluate manufacturing processes such as: Injection Molding , Blow Molding , Compression Molding (for plastic) Glass Tempering , Laminating , and Bending (for glass) Benchmark costs using market data, supplier inputs, and historical cost databases . Collaborate with Design, Procurement, and Supplier teams to validate costing assumptions and optimize component costs. Support VA/VE initiatives and provide cost-saving proposals based on design or process alternatives. Required Skills and Tools: Strong knowledge of plastic and glass manufacturing processes , tooling, and material selection. Proficiency in tools like: BoMCheck / Teamcenter Product Cost Management , Costimator , or similar cost estimation software SAP or ERP systems for material and supplier data analysis Basic CATIA / UG NX for 3D model interpretation Excellent analytical skills and knowledge of cost breakdown structure . Good communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Automobile Engineering or equivalent. 4–5 years of relevant experience in automotive costing focused on plastic and glass components .
