Job Summary:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the Power Business is responsible for providing strategic leadership, operational excellence, and sustainable growth of the power plants run on lignite coal. Revamp and restart the existing thermal coal-based plants into 100% lignite-based plants in phased manner at Tuticorin (2*80 MW) and Mettur (4*30 MW) to supply power to internal / external customers. This role involves navigating the unique challenges and opportunities associated with the utilization of lignite coal to produce energy efficiently, economically, and in an environmentally responsible manner.
Key Responsibilities
  • Revamp and restart the existing coal-based thermal plants located in Tuticorin (2*80 MW) and Mettur (4*30 MW+ 1*8) in a time bound manner.
  • Ensuring sustained running of both the power plant assets at Tuticorin and Mettur ensuring long-term raw material security for the power plants and power sales tie ups.
  • Develop a strategic vision to efficiently utilize coal for power generation and ensure compliance with HSE regulations.
  • Ensure the Finance-Lease partner operates the plant at maximum PLF and lowest cost generation with an end-to-end O&M model.
  • Maximize profits in the Finance, Own & Lease Model by focusing on operational efficiency and building plant capabilities to handle versatile fuel quality.
  • Manage the HSE aspects of the plant benchmarking with best-in-class companies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including government bodies, regulatory agencies, local communities, and investors.
Experience & Qualification:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical / mechanical / Power plant engineering and PGD in Power Plant Engineering is preferred with an experience of 12+ years.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role in operating power plants.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainable practices in the power industry.
  • Strong strategic thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a diverse team.
