Controller

As a Controller at Heritage Financial Credit Union, you will play a key leadership role in overseeing the Credit Union's accounting operations and financial reporting functions. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory, and accounting standards, including adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Your role will involve managing a team of accounting professionals, maintaining accurate financial records and controls, and contributing to strategic financial decision-making. You will also partner closely with the SVP of Financial Operations and executive leadership to maintain sound financial practices and support strategic growth and operational excellence. **Key Responsibilities:** - Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team to promote high performance, accountability, and professional growth. - Conduct performance evaluations and manage staffing needs including hiring, training, and ongoing development. - Maintain open and effective communication to ensure team alignment with organizational goals. - Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely internal and external financial statements. - Ensure compliance with GAAP, NCUA regulations, and internal financial policies and procedures. - Manage general ledger operations, account reconciliations, and regulatory filings. - Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making and long-term planning. **Qualifications Required:** - 4-year college degree preferred plus five to seven years of experience in the management of an accounting department in a banking setting; or a comparable combination of education and experience. Masters Degree preferred. - Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and excellent communication skills. - Experience using P.C. based accounting software, Microsoft Office Suite of Products, and Adobe Acrobat. - Ability to project a professional appearance and positive attitude at all times. - Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with other departments and managing staff. - Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
