Job Description

Civil Engineer Manager

will report to the Head of Engineering and will be responsible for assessing and analysing potential sites for solar installations, designing stable and compliant support structures for solar panels, and ensuring that all plans meet local building codes and regulations. He/ She will work closely with other engineers and stakeholders to create detailed engineering plans, manage the permitting process, and ensure the successful integration of solar systems into existing infrastructure. Their expertise ensures that solar projects are both safe and efficient. Core Responsibilities Solar Project Site Assessment: • Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies to evaluate the suitability of locations for solar installations. 2 | P a g e • Consider factors such as topography, geotechnical conditions, drainage, and environmental impact. Structural Design and Analysis: • Develop and review structural designs for solar PV systems, including foundations, racking systems, and mounting structures. • Perform structural analysis to ensure compliance with local building codes, seismic requirements, wind loading, and other environmental conditions specific to project locations. Civil Design and Permitting: • Lead the civil design phase of solar projects, including site layout, foundation design, and structural considerations. • Prepare and submit permit applications, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Site Assessment and Feasibility Studies: • Conduct preliminary site evaluations including desktop reviews of ArcGIS, topography, and wetlands. • Provide input on site grading, drainage, and layout optimization to ensure efficient use of space and resources. Foundation Design: • Design and oversee the construction of foundations for solar panels and related infrastructure, ensuring stability and durability in various soil and climate conditions. Infrastructure Planning: • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and design infrastructure components such as access roads, fencing, and drainage systems to support solar projects. Project Management: • Manage and oversee contractors and subcontractors during the construction phase, ensuring adherence to project schedules, budgets, and quality standards. Quality Assurance and Safety: • Ensure all designs adhere to relevant codes, standards, and regulations, including ASCE 7, IBC, ACI, AISC, and local building codes. • Conduct inspections and site visits as required to verify compliance with design specifications and quality standards. Cost Management: • Work to optimize project costs, providing cost estimates, tracking expenses, and identifying cost-saving opportunities. Technical Support and Problem Solving: • Provide technical support during the construction phase, addressing any structural challenges or issues that arise. • Innovate and implement solutions to optimize the design and construction process, reducing costs and improving efficiency. Documentation: • Maintain detailed records of project plans, engineering calculations, construction progress, and as-built documentation. Additional Responsibilities: • Creating design plans using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D for various aspects like grading, site layout, and utility plans. • Generating mass grading exhibits and detailed earthwork reports. • Designing stormwater management plans to meet various jurisdictional requirements. • Efficiently managing time across multiple projects. 3 | P a g e • Coordinating with clients to meet their expectations. • Gaining knowledge of PV system components such as modules, racking, inverters, and Balance of Systems (BOS). • Collaborating with other engineers for design support. • Ensuring compliance with company policies, industry standards, and safety codes. • Performing additional duties as assigned. • Reviewing design drawings, calculations, and site-specific studies for PV solar array foundations, fixed-tilt, and tracking PV structures to support project financing of utility-scale and distributed generation PV projects. • Leading cross-organizational collaboration to achieve project deliverable completion within a customers specified timeline and scope. • Developing a Permit Matrix for utility-scale solar projects. • Creating civil site plans identifying relevant approvals necessary. • Developing internal team capabilities and growing the civil department. • Developing civil design standards and specifications. • Overseeing SWPP, Hydrology, and Pile Design. • Leading continuous improvement of design standards, specifications, and design processes. • Ensuring all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with state requirements. Education Requirements A bachelors degree in civil engineering or a related field is essential. Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, STAAD-Pro, SolidWorks, and other relevant tools is crucial. A master’s degree in civil engineering, Structural Engineering, or Renewable Energy is an added advantage
