Cath Lab Technician

Key responsibilities

• Patient preparation: Prepare the patient for the procedure by obtaining medical history and consent, and educating them about the process.
• Procedure assistance: Assist the cardiologist during procedures by handing instruments and medications, preparing sterile fields, and managing catheters.
• Patient monitoring: Continuously monitor the patient's vital signs (including ECG and hemodynamic data) and alert the medical team to any changes or complications.
• Equipment management: Set up, operate, and maintain specialized equipment like cardiac monitors, imaging machines, and catheters.
• Safety and compliance: Ensure patient and staff safety by following radiation safety protocols and maintaining strict sterile techniques to prevent infection.
• Emergency response: Be prepared to assist with resuscitation and emergency interventions if complications arise during a procedure.
• Post-procedure care: Assist with patient recovery, monitor their condition after the procedure, and provide instructions for post-care and follow-up.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of procedures, patient data, and equipment usage.
• Inventory management: Monitor and manage lab supplies and instruments to ensure they are in stock

Required skills and qualifications

• Education: Typically requires a diploma, associate's, or bachelor's degree in cardiovascular or radiologic technology.
• Certification: Certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) is often required or preferred.
• Technical skills: Proficiency with cath lab equipment and knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, diseases, and procedures.
• Interpersonal skills: Strong communication skills for interacting with patients and the healthcare team, and a good bedside manner.
• Attention to detail: Crucial for patient safety, equipment operation, and accurate record-keeping
