JOB PURPOSE

• Category buyer to carry out the purchasing activities for required commodity.
• Develop Supply base in India for all the locomotive components to meet the Global Locomotive production requirements.

JOB DUTIES:

• Review demand, issue purchase orders as per the Master production schedule
• Data analysis of previous years spend data for a specific commodity to come up with recommendations to upper management on the opportunities to be pursued.
• Read engineering drawings and understand the part and process for manufacturing of the components, Identify suitable long term strategic source.
• Initiate sourcing of the components by following the pre-defined process.
• Coordinate and conduct the Initial Supplier Assessment audit.
• Identify strategic sourcing opportunities and manage supply base to achieve cost savings target.
• Negotiate with suppliers on cost/quality and timelines for project implementation.
• Lead projects through the development process, communicate with cross functional stake holders on a continuous basis.
• Monitor and track the forex details on monthly basis, to get the cost advantages.
• Monitor and track the commodity prices.
• Coordinate with suppliers on complaints, sample failures to complete the projects on time.
• Support Global teams on cost saving ideas on specific projects, develop alternate source in speculated time frame to achieve savings.
• Work on long term agreements with strategic suppliers.
• Support plants on production orders, coordinate with India suppliers and ensure delivery as per plant requirement.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

• B.Tech or BE in Mechanical Engineer with 10 years of experience or Masters degree with 8 years experience in supplier development
• Experience in heavy, medium and light fabrications manufacturing process or experience on casting, forgings and machining processes
• Experience of using different ERP systems (SAP, Infor LN, D365)
• Knowledge in sourcing of highly engineered components
• Strong aptitude in understanding of engineering drawings, procedures and principles
• Preferred knowledge in welding process, WPS, PQR and welding inspection procedures
• Experience in manufacturing plant and has on hand experience of complete manufacturing process of products, from components level to full assembly/testing/ different paintings/coatings.
• Sound Knowledge on ISO systems, QMS, NDT, SIX SIGMA methodology
• Knowledge on AWS, ASTM, API and EN standards
• Experience in Global sourcing and global supply chain, strong communication and presentation skills will be required to communicate with global teams on daily basis
• Experience in managing and developing new products in different commodities like fabrications (different process), machining, small fabrication, laminations, fasteners, BOP, catalogue products, actuators and automation products, seals, and o rings etc.
• Sound knowledge on India supply base for above commodities.
• Preferable experience in railway industry or automobile sector or heavy industrial equipment
