The Assistant Professor in Cardiac Perfusion Technology will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in perfusion technology and related cardiovascular sciences. The role involves teaching both theoretical and practical aspects of cardiac perfusion, mentoring students, conducting research, and contributing to the development of the academic program. The individual will also play a key role in shaping future professionals in the cardiac perfusion field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching and Instruction:
- Deliver lectures, seminars, and laboratory sessions on topics related to cardiac perfusion, including cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, perfusion equipment, and advanced cardiac surgery techniques.
- Develop and update course materials, syllabi, and assessments in alignment with current medical standards and technological advancements in perfusion.
- Provide hands-on training in clinical and laboratory settings, ensuring students gain practical experience with the equipment and procedures used in cardiac perfusion.
- Supervise students during clinical internships or placements in partnership with hospitals or healthcare institutions.
- Develop and implement innovative teaching methods, including simulation exercises, case studies, and research projects.
- Academic Program Development:
- Assist in the design, accreditation, and continuous improvement of the cardiac perfusion program, ensuring it aligns with industry standards and educational best practices.
- Collaborate with other faculty members to ensure the curriculum addresses evolving trends in cardiac surgery and perfusion technology.
- Promote interdisciplinary collaboration between perfusion, nursing, medical, and engineering faculties.
- Research and Scholarship:
- Engage in research activities related to cardiac perfusion, including studies on the development of perfusion technologies, patient outcomes, or procedural innovations.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed academic journals and present at relevant conferences.
- Secure research grants and collaborate with external partners (such as hospitals, research labs, and medical device companies) to advance the field of cardiac perfusion.
- Mentor graduate students and junior faculty in research methodologies and academic writing.
- Student Support and Mentoring:
- Provide academic advising to students pursuing a career in cardiac perfusion.
- Guide students through internships, clinical placements, and research projects.
- Offer career guidance, professional development, and networking opportunities for students entering the cardiac perfusion profession.
- Support students' success by providing feedback, mentoring, and fostering a positive learning environment.
- Professional Development and Service:
- Attend faculty meetings and contribute to departmental activities.
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in cardiac perfusion technology and surgical practices through professional development opportunities, certifications, and continuing education.
- Participate in professional organizations related to cardiovascular perfusion (e.g., American Society of ExtraCorporeal Technology, International Society of Perfusion).
- Contribute to the broader academic community through participation in conferences, workshops, and symposia.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Education:
- A Doctoral degree (PhD or EdD) in a relevant field, such as Cardiovascular Science, Allied Health, Medical Science, or Engineering.
- A Master’s degree in Cardiovascular Perfusion Technology or a closely related field may also be acceptable, with significant professional experience in perfusion.
- Certification as a Cardiovascular Perfusionist (e.g., by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP)) is highly preferred.
- Experience:
- Proven teaching experience at the university or college level in cardiac perfusion or a related field.
- A strong clinical background with experience in cardiac perfusion practice, preferably in a hospital or clinical setting.
- Research experience in the area of cardiac perfusion technology, ideally with publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience working with or mentoring students in a clinical or academic environment.
