Job Description

Position Overview:

Key Responsibilities:

1. Operational Oversight

    • Direct and monitor daily operations to ensure smooth functioning of all blood bank activities.
    • Ensure the proper storage, labeling, and distribution of blood and blood products in accordance with regulatory standards.
    • Maintain optimal inventory levels to meet routine and emergency requirements.
    • Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and validation of all blood bank equipment.

2. Staff Supervision and Development

    • Lead, guide, and monitor the performance of blood bank personnel, ensuring compliance with protocols.
    • Plan and coordinate staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage at all times.
    • Organize and conduct training programs for staff on updated procedures, technologies, and compliance requirements.

3. Quality Management and Compliance

    • Implement and maintain robust quality control and quality assurance systems.
    • Ensure strict compliance with national and international guidelines (e.g., NACO, NABH, FDA, or equivalent).
    • Prepare for and facilitate regulatory inspections, internal audits, and accreditation processes.
    • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records as per statutory guidelines.

4. Donor Services and Public Outreach

    • Supervise donor screening, counseling, and post-donation care.
    • Ensure the highest standards of donor safety and satisfaction.
    • Coordinate and support voluntary blood donation camps and awareness programs.

5. Coordination and Communication

    • Liaise effectively with hospital departments, clinicians, and external agencies regarding blood supply requirements.
    • Respond promptly to urgent and emergency requests for blood and components.
    • Prepare operational, statistical, and compliance reports for submission to senior management.

6. Safety and Risk Management

    • Enforce strict adherence to biosafety and infection control protocols.
    • Investigate and document any adverse transfusion reactions or deviations from standard procedures.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (B.Sc. MLT) or equivalent. Postgraduate qualification in Transfusion Medicine or related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years relevant experience in a blood bank with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • In-depth knowledge of blood banking regulations, quality systems, and operational workflows.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, effective communication skills, and problem-solving acumen.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and manage critical situations with composure.
