Blast Furnace- VPSA Operations (Senior Engineer / Engineer)

1. Role Summary

The position is responsible for ensuring efficient VPSA-based Blast Furnace operations by monitoring process parameters, maintaining production quality, and ensuring compliance with ISO standards. The role involves both control room responsibilities and coordination with field operations to achieve safe, stable, and cost-effective hot metal production.

2. Major Responsibilities

A. VPSA Blast Furnace Operations

• Operate and supervise blast furnace systems through SCADA/DCS control room.
  
• Maintain accurate furnace burdening, charging sequence, and process stability.
  
• Monitor wind parameters, gas flow, tapping schedules, and slag conditions.
  
• Support uninterrupted hot metal production with minimum downtime.
  

B. Process Control & Optimization

• Track furnace thermal condition, top pressure, and gas utilization.
  
• Analyze daily production, coke rate, PCI rate, and consumption trends.
  
• Identify abnormalities and take corrective actions to avoid scaffolding, slips, or hanging.
  
• Recommend process improvements for fuel efficiency and reduced operational cost.
  

C. ISO Compliance & Documentation

• Ensure all operations follow ISO-compliant SOPs, Work Instructions, and QMS guidelines.
  
• Participate in internal/external ISO audits and prepare required documentation.
  
• Implement safety, environment, and quality management system practices.
  

D. Safety, Environment & Risk Management

• Follow hazard identification (HIRA), risk assessment, and PTW procedures.
  
• Ensure safe tapping practices, cast house housekeeping, and emergency preparedness.
  
• Promote zero-harm culture and compliance with ISO 45001 standards.
  

E. Coordination & Reporting

• Work closely with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams for routine and breakdown maintenance.
  
• Prepare shift logs, production summaries, furnace health reports, and incident reports.
  
• Guide junior engineers, operators, and new trainees on process and safety practices.
  

3. Qualifications

• Diploma / B.Tech / BE in Mechanical / Metallurgy / Electrical / Production.
  
• 312 years of experience in Blast Furnace, VPSA, or iron-making operations.
  
• Hands-on knowledge of control room operations is preferred.
  

4. Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of BF thermodynamics and VPSA systems.
  
• Analytical decision-making and process troubleshooting skills.
  
• Good communication and team leadership abilities.
  
• Familiarity with SAP/ERP and MS Office.
  

5. Additional Requirements

• Ability to work in rotating shifts.
  
• Strong adherence to safety and discipline.
  
• Capability to handle critical furnace situations and emergencies.
