Associate Professor of Biochemistry

Core Responsibilities

• Teaching & Academics:

• Design, implement, and deliver lectures, practical sessions, tutorials, and small-group discussions on medical biochemistry for undergraduate (MBBS, BDS, Nursing) and postgraduate (MD Biochemistry, MSc Medical Biochemistry) students.
• Develop curriculum content focusing on metabolism, molecular biology, genetics, clinical biochemistry, and nutrition, aligning with NMC competency-based medical education (CBME) guidelines.
• Mentor postgraduate students and guide them through thesis work, research projects, and seminars.
• Evaluate student performance through assessments, examinations, and practical viva-voce exams.

• Research & Scholarship:

• Initiate and lead independent research projects in areas like clinical diagnostics, metabolic disorders, molecular medicine, or genetics.
• Secure external research grants and funding from agencies like ICMR, DBT, etc.
• Publish high-impact research articles in reputable, indexed national and international journals (e.g., those indexed in Scopus, PubMed/Medline).
• Present research findings at relevant scientific conferences and workshops.

• Clinical/Diagnostic Services:

• Oversee the functioning and quality assurance protocols of the clinical biochemistry diagnostic laboratory within the teaching hospital.
• Validate new diagnostic tests and ensure NABL accreditation standards are maintained.
• Provide expert interpretation of complex laboratory results to clinical departments.

• Service & Administration:

• Participate in departmental administration, inventory management, and equipment procurement.
• Serve on institutional committees (e.g., research ethics board, curriculum committee, quality control board).
• Engage in continuous professional development activities and department organization of CMEs/workshops.
