Assistant Safety Manager

Job Summary:

We are looking for a proactive and vigilant Site Safety Engineer to ensure adherence to safety policies, plans, and practices at the project level. The role will be responsible for daily site safety monitoring, conducting safety inspections and incident investigations, maintaining documentation, and driving awareness through training and toolbox talks. The engineer will play a key role in supporting a culture of safety compliance and continuous improvement across all on-site stakeholders, including contractors, labor, and supervisory staff.

Key Responsibilities:

• Site Safety Monitoring & Compliance

• Ensure contractor adherence to site-specific safety plans and procedures.
• Issue a permit to work only after verifying the required safety measures and documentation.
• Monitor safe work practices for high-risk activities, including working at height, lifting operations, confined spaces, and electrical works.
• Conduct labor health screenings (e.g., eyesight checks, height phobia assessments) as part of the onboarding process.
• Conduct regular safety compliance checks for plants, machinery, and equipment used on-site.
• Maintain and update safety documentation, including work permits, licenses, incident reports, safety training records, medical records, and audit logs.
• Support deployment and usage of digital safety tools such as mobility apps for inspection, work permits & incident reporting.
• Define and periodically update the corporate safety policy in line with regulatory requirements and organizational goals.

• Incident Reporting & Risk Mitigation

• Identify potential hazards on-site and implement appropriate control measures to eliminate or minimize risk.
• Train contractors to report safety incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions using the prescribed mobility application.
• Conduct incident investigations and root cause analysis, and upload findings in the mobility app as per defined timelines.
• Define and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for reported incidents.
• Monitor contractor compliance with the safety actions assigned and escalate in case of delays or non-adherence.

• Safety Training & Awareness

• Conduct safety training sessions for workers and supervisors during onboarding.
• Organize periodic refresher trainings, mock drills, and emergency response simulations in coordination with site teams.
• Actively participate in daily toolbox talks and safety briefings to promote good practices and address site-specific risks.

• MIS & Dashboards

• Maintain safety-related Daily, Weekly, and Monthly reports in standardized formats.
• Track and escalate deviations from defined safety KPIs (e.g., number of incidents, near misses, compliance rate, toolbox talk coverage).
• Ensure safety dashboards are updated regularly with accurate and validated data from the field.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor's degree / Diploma in Engineering (Civil / Mechanical) or Industrial Safety.
• Certification in Safety / EHS (e.g., NEBOSH IGC, ADIS, IOSH) preferred.
• 37 years of experience in construction safety management on real estate, EPC, or infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of national safety codes, work permit systems, risk assessment methodologies, and incident reporting protocols.
• Familiarity with digital safety platforms or mobility-based reporting tools is an advantage.
• Good interpersonal skills, assertiveness, and the ability to influence contractor and labor compliance
• Commitment to upholding a strong safety culture through regular field engagement and follow-through.
