Job Title: Assembly Head CNC (Heavy Machinery)

Job Overview

The Assembly Head – CNC will be responsible for leading the assembly, fabrication, and testing of CNC-based heavy machinery and sub-assemblies. This role requires deep expertise in CNC machining, assembly operations, and production leadership. The position demands strong technical knowledge, people management skills, and the ability to drive process excellence while ensuring high-quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise the assembly, fabrication, and CNC teams (engineers, supervisors, technicians, operators, welders).
  • Plan manpower allocation, build multi-skilled teams, and foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct training on CNC machining, assembly practices, and lean manufacturing techniques.

2. Assembly & CNC Operations

  • Oversee end-to-end assembly of heavy machinery, CNC machines, and sub-assemblies as per engineering specifications.
  • Manage CNC shop floor activities: CNC Turning, VMC, Plasma Cutting, Laser Nesting & Programming.
  • Ensure accurate BOQ/BOM preparation and verification against engineering designs.
  • Optimize cycle times, takt time, and line balancing for smooth assembly flow.

3. Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Implement strict quality checks, CAPA (Corrective & Preventive Action), and root cause analysis (Why-Why / 8D).
  • Ensure adherence to ISO, OHS, and safety standards.
  • Conduct audits and inspections to guarantee zero-defect assemblies.

4. Process & Productivity Improvement

  • Drive shop floor efficiency through 5S, Kaizen, and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Optimize material handling and shop floor layout for maximum productivity.
  • Implement OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) tracking across CNC and assembly operations.

5. Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain detailed reports on assembly performance, CNC utilization, and production output.
  • Present MIS reports and improvement initiatives to senior management.
  • Document best practices, SOPs, and assembly protocols.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education:

    B.Tech/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (MBA in Production/Operations preferred).
  • Experience:

    10–20 years in heavy machinery manufacturing, with at least 5+ years in CNC/Assembly leadership roles.
  • Technical Expertise:

    • CNC programming (Laser, Plasma, VMC, CNC Turning).
    • Fabrication processes (cutting, drilling, welding, grinding, buffing, painting, shot blasting).
    • SAP/ERP for production planning.
  • Certifications:

    Internal Auditor (ISO/OHS), Lean/5S exposure preferred.
  • Soft Skills:

    Leadership, problem-solving, cross-functional collaboration, and communication.
