Akamai Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Key Responsibilities

1. Edge Computing & AI at the Edge

• Implement and optimize the latest

  Akamai AI inference

  capabilities directly at the edge.
• Deploy and manage models running closer to customers to reduce latency.

2. Serverless Logic (EdgeWorkers)

• Architect, develop, and manage complex

  Akamai EdgeWorkers

  .
• Offload logic from the origin infrastructure to improve reliability, reduce load, and enable real-time personalization.

3. Traffic Engineering & Performance

• Create advanced

  Forwarding Rules

  , Phased Release policies, and routing strategies.
• Ensure minimal latency and maximum availability for millions of users.

4. Next-Gen Security

• Lead Akamai

  WAF

  and

  Bot Manager

  strategies.
• Build robust security layers for a high-traffic global platform.
• Work closely with security teams to ensure compliance and best practices.

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work with engineering, architecture, and DevOps teams to continuously innovate the tech stack.
• Provide SME guidance for large-scale, performance-sensitive applications.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5–10+ years

  hands-on experience with

  Akamai CDN and Edge Computing

  .
• Expertise with:
• Akamai

  EdgeWorkers

• Akamai

  WAF

  and

  Bot Manager

• Traffic management and routing strategies
• Akamai

  Forwarding Rules

  , Property Manager, and Configurations
• Experience designing

  serverless logic

  and edge functions.
• Strong understanding of

  web performance optimization

  , high-traffic architectures, and low-latency systems.
• Ability to architect and troubleshoot complex distributed systems.
• Familiarity with release strategies (Phased Releases, Canary, etc.).

Nice-to-Have

• Experience working in

  eCommerce

  , travel, hospitality, or large consumer-facing platforms.
• Knowledge of AI/ML model deployment at the edge.
• Background in security engineering or threat mitigation.
