We’re Hiring: InDesign JavaScript Developer

We are looking for a highly skilled Editorial Production Automation Engineer with strong expertise in Adobe InDesign, ExtendScript, XML workflows, and automation technologies. This role focuses on building custom scripts, tools, and automated workflows to streamline content production, improve efficiency, and enhance editorial operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Structure content and build authoring templates for editorial workflows.
• Create automation scripts/programs to streamline the flow of content into templates.
• Design, develop, and maintain automation tools for Adobe InDesign using ExtendScript, Adobe UXP, and similar technologies.
• Automate production workflows such as:
• Generating InDesign (INDD) files
• Batch image manipulation and optimization
• Producing HTML, JSON, and XML outputs
• Integrating editorial content with structured/semi-structured XML
• Collaborate with editorial, design, and production teams to identify automation opportunities.
• Implement structured content workflows using DITA XML or other frameworks.
• Develop and support tools for seamless data exchange between InDesign, XML, and other systems.
• Ensure smooth integration of automated solutions into existing pipelines.
• Provide documentation, training, and ongoing support.
• Stay updated with Adobe technologies (UXP, ExtendScript updates) and automation trends.
• Participate in exploratory projects involving Node.js, Python, or other scripting technologies.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Adobe InDesign.
• Hands-on experience with ExtendScript for InDesign workflow automation.
• Strong proficiency in XML (structured and semi-structured).
• Familiarity with DITA XML or other structured authoring frameworks is a plus.
• Experience with SCORM, QTI, CMI5, or other e-learning content formats is an advantage.
• Proven experience creating automation scripts and production tools.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to convert workflow challenges into automation solutions.
