Roles and Responsibilities of an Academic Coordinator

Curriculum Planning and Implementation:

Adapt, and oversee the implementation of the curriculum aligned with Kido pedagogical approach.

  • Ensure the weekly lesson plans prepared are engaging, inclusive, and support holistic child development (cognitive, social, emotional, and physical) following the guidelines on manula.

Ensure all classrooms are updated with documentation boards reflecting the week's activities, progress, and themes by the end of each week.

  • Research and introduce innovative teaching methods and tools to enrich the learning experience, ensuring alignment with established pedagogical practices and curriculum objectives Adapt, and oversee the implementation of the curriculum aligned with Kido pedagogical approach.

2. Staff Training and Mentoring:

Conduct teacher training sessions as directed by the Centre Director to enhance educators skills and knowledge.

  • Provide ongoing support, feedback, and mentoring to teaching staff.
  • Work closely with the Centre Director to identify training needs and mentoring opportunities for staff and keep the academic team in the loop.
  • Lead one classroom activity per program weekly to maintain hands-on engagement with teaching practices, better understand classroom dynamics, and model best practices for the team.

3. Monitoring and Assessment:

  • Observe classroom activities regularly to maintain high-quality teaching and learning practices, sharing findings with the Centre Director.
  • Evaluate and document childrens progress through observation assessments.
  • Support teachers in identifying and addressing developmental delays or special needs in coordination with the Centre Director.
  • Review and verify daily reports and classroom documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness. Sign off on them before forwarding to the Centre Director for the final check.

4. Parent Communication and Engagement:

  • Assist the Centre Director in planning and conducting parent-teacher meetings to discuss children's progress and address concerns.
  • Organize parent-teacher meetings at the end of each term/ cycle.
  • Serve as a secondary point of contact for academic-related queries from parents, escalating issues to the Centre Director when needed.

5. Quality Assurance

  • Ensure curriculum implementation meets the standards set by the Centre Director and complies with Kido guidelines.

Maintain a high standard of teaching, safety, and hygiene within the center as part of regular quality checks.

  • Propose curriculum or teaching updates to the Centre Director based on observations and feedback.

6. Event Planning and Coordination:

  • Work with the Centre Director to design and execute educational events, celebrations, and activities that align with learning objectives.
  • Ensure these events are age-appropriate and culturally relevant, with approval from the Centre Director.

7. Resource Management:

  • Collaborate with the Centre Director to identify and procure necessary teaching aids and learning materials.
  • Oversee the appropriate use of classroom resources, curriculum stocks and maintain an inventory in consultation with the Centre Director.
  • Oversee and ensure the classroom environment is thoughtfully arranged to be both conducive to learning and stimulating for children's development and creativity.

8. Collaboration and Teamwork:

  • Act as a bridge between teaching staff and the Centre Director to ensure smooth communication and operations.
  • Foster teamwork among educators and encourage sharing of best practices, under the guidance of the Centre Director.
  • Provide support in the classrooms during the absence of the teacher and assistant teacher, ensuring continuity of learning and maintaining classroom order.

Review the trial performance of candidates visiting the center and provide detailed feedback to the Centre Director.

9. Professional Development:

  • Stay updated on the latest trends in ECCE and share insights with the Centre Director.
  • Encourage staff participation in professional development opportunities and training sessions organized or conducted by the team to foster continuous learning and growth.

Problem-Solving and Conflict Resolution:

  • Address classroom and staff challenges promptly, keeping the Centre Director informed of major issues.
  • Maintain a professional and harmonious work environment in coordination with the Centre Directors leadership.
