VTL setter cum operator

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced VTL Setter cum Operator to handle the setup and operation of Vertical Turning Lathes (VTL). The candidate should be proficient in reading engineering drawings, setting tools, adjusting offsets, and ensuring precision machining of components according to specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) machines as per job specifications and engineering drawings.
• Select appropriate tools, inserts, and fixtures for various jobs.
• Perform workpiece and tool setting, including alignment, clamping, and zero offset adjustments.
• Interpret technical drawings, tolerances, and machining symbols (GD&T).
• Conduct first piece inspection and ensure in-process quality checks using standard measuring instruments.
• Make necessary machine offset adjustments to maintain part accuracy and surface finish.
• Monitor tool wear and replace tools as necessary to maintain consistent production quality.
• Maintain daily production reports and ensure targets are met within specified tolerances.
• Perform basic machine maintenance and cleaning to ensure equipment reliability.
• Coordinate with the quality control and production team to resolve machining issues.
• Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Requirements:

• ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Machinist trade.
• 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in VTL machine operation and setting.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and GD&T.
• Experience working with Fanuc / Siemens / Mitsubishi / other CNC controllers (depending on machine make).
• Good knowledge of cutting speeds, feeds, and materials.
• Skilled in using measuring instruments like Vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, etc.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to work in shifts as required.

Preferred Skills:

• Basic CNC program editing or modifications (optional but advantageous).
• Experience in machining castings, forgings, or large-diameter components.
• Exposure to heavy engineering, oil & gas, or automotive industries.

Salary: As per industry standards
