Technical Writing Intern

Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive technical documentation: Create user manuals, online help systems, tutorials, and other technical documentation for a variety of software and hardware products.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts: Work closely with engineers, developers, and other technical stakeholders to gather information, understand product features, and ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation.
• Contribute to the development of documentation processes: Participate in process improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices within the team.
• Stay updated on industry trends: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices in technical documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in technical writing, technology, or a related field.
• Strong technical writing skills: Excellent command of grammar, style, and clarity in written communication.
• Familiarity with various software and hardware platforms.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in creating user manuals, online help systems, and other technical documentation.
• Experience with content management systems (CMS) and authoring tools.
• Experience in SaaS, Networking, or Web application development sectors.
• Experience with single-sourcing and content reuse strategies.
• Knowledge of XML and other content markup languages.

Additional Information

A 40-hours working week is standard in this role, but flexible working practices are common and you may need to work outside of a typical 9am to 5pm pattern. As many freelancers work from home and remotely, you'll sometimes be able to choose your working hours.

Your first role will typically be of a content writer trainee/intern. With experience and relevant professional qualifications, you can move into the role of Head Information Developer.
