Role: Senior Software Engineer / Technical Lead Java | Spring Boot | Microservices

Location: India (Hybrid)

Team: Core Product Engineering

As a key member of our product engineering team, you will design, build, and scale the next generation of Guidewire's core cloud services. You will work closely with global engineering teams, influence architectural direction, and contribute to highly available, mission-critical systems used by millions of insurance customers worldwide.

Product Engineering & Development

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality backend services using

  Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices architecture

  .
• Build scalable, secure, and high-performance

  RESTful APIs

  and cloud-ready services for Guidewires core product platform.
• Contribute to the development of

  distributed systems

  handling high transaction volumes and mission-critical workloads.

System Design & Technical Contribution

• Participate in

  system design discussions

  , contributing to service decomposition, API contracts, and data modelling.
• Apply

  OOP principles, design patterns, and clean architecture practices

  to build maintainable and extensible solutions.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and architects to implement

  scalable and fault-tolerant designs

  .

Engineering Excellence

• Write clean, testable, and well-documented code following

  engineering best practices

  .
• Ensure strong

  unit testing, integration testing

  , and adherence to CI/CD pipelines.
• Perform

  code reviews

  , identify technical debt, and proactively improve code quality and performance.
• Debug complex production issues and contribute to

  performance tuning and optimization

  .

Collaboration & Agile Delivery

• Work closely with

  Product, QA, DevOps, and UX teams

  to deliver high-quality features end-to-end.
• Actively participate in

  Agile/Scrum ceremonies

  including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Collaborate with

  global engineering teams

  across geographies to ensure consistent delivery and quality.

Cloud & Modernization

• Contribute to building and enhancing

  cloud-native services

  (AWS/GCP/Azure exposure preferred).

• Support platform modernization initiatives including

  microservices migration, scalability improvements, and automation

  .
• Monitor and improve service reliability using logging, monitoring, and alerting tools.
  

Continuous Improvement

• Continuously learn and adopt new technologies, frameworks, and tools relevant to backend and cloud engineering.
  
• Share knowledge, best practices, and technical insights within the team.
  
• Contribute ideas to improve engineering efficiency, automation, and platform capabilities.

Required Skills & Experience

• 8+ years

  of strong, hands-on experience in

  backend product engineering

  , building and scaling enterprise-grade applications.
• Deep, practical expertise in:
  

• Java / J2EE

  , with a strong command of core Java, multithreading, and performance tuning.

• Spring Boot and Spring Cloud

  , including configuration management, service discovery, and resilience patterns.

• RESTful microservices architecture

  , designing and developing scalable, secure, and high-availability services.
• Strong foundational knowledge and real-world application of:
  

• Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)

  principles for building clean, modular, and extensible systems.

• Design patterns

  , with the ability to select and apply the right patterns to solve complex engineering problems.

• System architecture

  , including service decomposition, API design, data flow, and trade-off analysis in distributed systems.

Soft Skills & Leadership

• Ability to lead technical discussions and guide full development lifecycle.
  
• Strong collaboration skills for working with geographically distributed teams.
  
• Ability to influence architectural direction and drive engineering best practices.
  

Tools & Methodologies

• Experience with Jira, Confluence, Agile/Scrum frameworks.
  
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, cloud services (AWS/GCP/Azure) is an advantage.
