Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Designer to lead the mechanical engineering team in designing cutting-edge solutions for the industrial automation sector. As the Team Lead of Mechanical Design, you will be responsible for overseeing the mechanical design process for projects, managing a team of engineers, and collaborating closely with cross-functional departments such as Electrical, Controls, Purchase, and Assembly teams. Your work will directly impact the development of automated systems, robotic solutions, and advanced machinery used in various industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Lead and mentor a team of mechanical design engineers, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and high-performance environment.
  • Manage resource allocation, project timelines, and team priorities to ensure optimal performance and project delivery.
  • Provide guidance in the design and development of complex mechanical systems, from concept to final product.

Mechanical Design & Innovation:

  • Drive the mechanical design and development of industrial automation products, including robotic solutions, automated conveyors, gantry systems, end of arm tool and custom machinery.
  • Ensure that designs meet industry standards, performance specifications, safety regulations, and cost constraints.
  • Innovate and push the boundaries of design for automation solutions that enhance functionality, scalability, and efficiency.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with electrical, controls, purchase and assembly teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with electrical and software components in auto running the complete automation solution.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing & assembly teams to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing & assembly feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
  • Provide technical expertise during the various stages of manufacturing & assembly process, integration & testing, auto running the solution & during pre dispatch inspection.
  • Provide solutions during installation & commissioning process of the automation solutions.

Customer Interaction & Project Management

  • Lead projects design, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
  • Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and failure mode analyses to identify and mitigate potential issues early in the development process.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for sourcing and procurement of critical mechanical components and materials.
  • Closely interact & visit customer during conceptualizing the solutions, layout workings, design approval process, pre dispatch inspection and installation & commissioning of the automation systems.

Continuous Improvement & Technology Advancement:

  • Keep up with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical design and automation.
  • Continuously improve internal design processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency and product quality.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant certifications, quality standards (e.g., ISO, CE, UL, CSA), and health & safety regulations.

Qualifications & Skills

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Any Professional certifications are a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 15-20 years of experience in mechanical design, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the industrial automation or robotics industry.
  • Proven experience designing complex mechanical systems and leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and automation technologies.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and FEA tools.
  • Expertise in mechanical design for industrial automation applications, including robotics, conveyors, actuators, and custom automation equipment.
  • Knowledge of thermal, kinematic, and structural analysis.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing techniques such as CNC machining, sheet metal working and other advanced manufacturing processes.

Leadership & Communication:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills with a proven ability to drive team performance and foster a culture of innovation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of interacting effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills under pressure.
