Steward Job Description for a Premium Iyengar Restaurant (Bangalore) Position: Steward Location: Bangalore Restaurant Type: Premium Iyengar Cuisine Experience Required: Minimum 18 months in a similar role Key Responsibilities Greet guests warmly and ensure a welcoming atmosphere at all times. Take prepared dishes from runners and serve them efficiently to guests’ tables. Clearly explain menu items, including ingredients and preparation style, with a focus on Iyengar cuisine. Provide recommendations and answer guest queries about dishes and beverages. Ensure each table is set up according to restaurant standards before guests are seated. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dining area throughout service. Present bills to guests, process payments accurately, and return change or receipts promptly. Coordinate with kitchen and runner staff to ensure timely and accurate service. Observe guests during their meal to anticipate any additional needs or requests. Clear tables promptly after guests depart and reset for the next service. Adhere to all hygiene, sanitation, and safety standards as per company and regulatory guidelines. Assist with inventory checks and restocking of service stations as required. Candidate Requirements Minimum 18 months of experience as a steward or waiter in a premium or fine-dining restaurant, preferably in a South Indian Restaurant. Well-groomed, presentable, and maintains high standards of personal hygiene. Excellent verbal communication skills in English and local languages; must be well-spoken and courteous Strong knowledge of food and beverage service standards, especially in Indian cuisine. Ability to explain dishes and ingredients clearly to guests. Basic billing and POS (Point of Sale) handling experience. Team player with a positive attitude and strong customer service orientation. Physically fit to stand and move throughout the shift Flexible to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays. Preferred Skills Prior experience in premium or specialty South Indian restaurants. Knowledge of Iyengar cuisine and South Indian food culture. Attention to detail, organization, and multitasking abilities. Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.
