Staff Data Platform Engineer (Dev Ops)

As a Staff Platform Engineer (DevOps) at Zendesk, you will be a key member of the Enterprise Data & Analytics (EDA) team. Your primary responsibility will be to shape the strategy, architecture, and execution of Zendesk's data platform to enable next-generation reporting and analytics. You will work in a collaborative Agile environment, setting technical standards, leading complex initiatives, and mentoring senior engineers to deliver high-quality, compliant, and cost-efficient data products at scale. **Key Responsibilities:** - Lead the architecture and roadmap of the data platform, covering ingestion, transformation, storage, and governance. - Establish standardized data contracts, schemas, documentation, and tooling to improve consistency and reduce time-to-data for analytics and product teams. - Design and deliver secure and highly-available data services and pipelines for large-scale, mission-critical workloads. - Define standards for data modeling, testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code (IaC), and code quality to advance data quality and governance. - Conduct deep root cause analyses to drive systemic fixes that improve resilience and developer experience. **Qualifications Required:** - 8+ years of data engineering experience with scalable data infrastructure, including data pipelines and ETL processes on big data environments. - 3+ years of experience leading complex initiatives at a Senior/Staff level. - 3+ years of experience with Cloud columnar databases, specifically Snowflake. - Proven experience as a CI/CD Engineer or DevOps Engineer with a focus on data platforms and analytics using tools like Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and Github Actions. - Proficiency in SQL query authoring and data processing, along with experience in at least one of the programming languages such as Python, Go, Java, or Scala. - Experience with ETL schedulers like Apache Airflow, AWS Glue, or similar frameworks, and integration with 3rd party API SaaS applications. - Strong collaboration and communication skills to work closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders. The Zendesk data stack includes ELT tools like Fivetran, Snowflake, dbt, and Airflow, infrastructure components on GCP, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and monitoring tools like DataDog and MonteCarlo for observability.
