Staff Backend Engineer

As a Backend Team Lead, you will be responsible for leading and taking ownership of the backend team throughout the end-to-end Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). This includes handling requirements, estimations, and ensuring successful releases in production. Your primary duties will involve developing new features and enhancements for the product in a secure, well-tested, and high-performing manner. You will be tasked with setting architectural guidelines for the team, incorporating best practices in development, and ensuring that code aligns with internal standards for style and maintainability in a high-scale web environment. Additionally, you will play a key role in code reviews to maintain and enforce these standards. Collaboration with stakeholders from various departments is essential to deliver the required functionality to the market. You will also be responsible for debugging application issues, providing support to address client queries efficiently, and offering accurate estimates while effectively communicating task statuses and identifying potential risks. Your commitment to problem-solving and task completion in the most efficient and reliable manner will be crucial in this role. Performance tuning of application code at different service levels and implementing design changes to enhance application performance will be part of your responsibilities. Interaction with application users to address reported issues is also expected from you. In addition to technical responsibilities, you will be required to hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent, with 6-8 years of experience in Java and J2EE/Java EE. Strong knowledge of object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, SQL concepts, and experience in building RESTful web services is essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal, time management, problem-solving, and analytical skills, are necessary for success in this role. Experience with Continuous Integration (CI) tools, build pipelines, writing modular, well-documented, testable, and maintainable code is highly valued. Previous experience in building operationally critical services, particularly in eCommerce in the cloud, is a plus.
