Sr Staff Engineer

As a Sr. Staff Engineer at Weekday's client, your role involves leading the development and expansion of the Tax Compliance product suite. You will architect and scale innovative digital solutions to automate tax filing, reconciliation, and compliance workflows for businesses of all sizes. Collaborating with product, DevOps, and data teams, you will ensure reliability, scalability, and engineering excellence across the platform. **Key Responsibilities:** - Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing engineering team, or operate as a hands-on technical lead when needed. - Design, develop, and optimize scalable backend services using Python/Node.js. - Work with Django, FastAPI, and task orchestration systems to deliver robust solutions. - Own and evolve CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or similar) to ensure fast, safe, and reliable deployments. - Architect and manage cloud infrastructure using AWS and Terraform, adopting a DevOps-first mindset. - Collaborate with product managers, designers, and compliance experts to build features that simplify tax compliance for users. - Define and enforce engineering best practices, code quality standards, and operational excellence. - Stay current with industry trends and advocate for continuous improvements in engineering practices. - Contribute expertise in fintech, tax, or compliance-related systems. - Utilize containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes) for deployment and scaling. - Apply knowledge in security, observability, and compliance automation where relevant. **Requirements:** - 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2+ years in a leadership or principal-level role. - Strong expertise in Python/Node.js, including API development, performance optimization, and testing. - Hands-on experience with Django, FastAPI, Celery, Kafka/RabbitMQ. - Proven experience in event-driven architectures. - Deep knowledge of AWS services (ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, CloudWatch). - Proficiency in Terraform for infrastructure as code. - Strong background in CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or similar). - Ability to balance technical leadership with hands-on coding and problem-solving. - Excellent communication skills with a collaborative, solution-driven mindset. **Key Skills:** - Python | Node.js - Django | FastAPI - Celery | Kafka | RabbitMQ - AWS | Terraform | Jenkins - Docker | Kubernetes,
