Position Overview

Software Technical Writer

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, write and maintain user manuals, API documentation, release notes, installation guides and technical specifications.
• Collaborate with software engineers, product teams andsubject matter experts (SMEs) to gather technical information.
• Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise and easy-to-understand documentation for different audiences (end-users, administrators, developers).
• Ensure consistency in style, tone and terminology across all documentation.
• Update and maintain documentation based on new product releases, enhancements and customer feedback.
• Create diagrams, flowcharts and visuals to complement written content.
• Work with version control systems (Git, SVN) to manage documentation alongside software code.
• Conduct peer reviews and edit documentation for grammar, clarity and accuracy.
• Assist in developing content for knowledge bases, FAQs, training materials, and online help systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in computer science, Engineering, Technical Writing, Communications or a related field.
• 25 years of experience as a technical writer in a software/IT environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Strong ability to understand and explain technical concepts.
• Proficiency in documentation tools such as MadCapFlare, RoboHelp, Confluence or Markdown.
• Experience with API documentation (Swagger, Postman, OpenAPI) is a plus.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodology.
• Knowledge of version control systems (Git) and publishing workflows.
• Attention to detail, ability to multitask and meet deadlines.

Preferred Skills

• Basic knowledge of programming languages (Java, Python, C# or JavaScript).
• Experience with XML, DITA, or structured authoring frameworks.
• Understanding of UI/UX principles to improve documentation usability.
• Experience with multimedia documentation (video tutorials, interactive guides).
