As an Engineering Manager within PayPal s Feature Studio team, you ll lead a talented group of developers working on core data science-enabling systems. By enhancing the performance, reliability, and scalability of our platforms, you ll support over 400 users monthly in building foundational features that are later leveraged by models and decisioning systems across PayPals strategic initiatives. Job Description Your way to impact In this role, you ll help shape how PayPal empowers data scientists by driving the creation of tools that directly impact business efficiency. Leading the batch processing features in Feature Studio requires an emphasis on cost-efficiency, scalability, and quality, enabling high-quality solutions for our customers. By managing and mentoring your team, you ll foster growth and deliver innovations that elevate how data drives decisions. Your day to day In your day-to-day role, you will Lead and mentor a high-performing engineering team, fostering growth, collaboration, and a strong team culture. Collaborate with cross-functional partners including product managers and data scientists to deliver impactful, intuitive solutions. Ensure adherence to engineering best practices and governance standards in support of data-driven decision-making. Drive both technology and product innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development Be a technical subject matter expert and represent the full internal and external capabilities of the platform. Lead complex architectural discussions that involve multiple systems Identify any product/functionality gaps and collaborate internal product and technology teams to define the necessary development to support solution delivery. Drive integration efforts and lead critical work streams of strategic initiatives sponsored by senior executives Drive engineering excellence through CI/CD Proactive response in identifying and troubleshooting integration or technical issues. Actively involve in stakeholder communication and setting right priorities for the work What do you need to bring - To excel in this role, you must have 10+ years of experience in building successful production software systems. Proven experience in leading and managing high-performing software engineering teams, including performance management, team development, and strategic planning Expert in Object Oriented Programming, Software Design Patterns, Automated Testing and Deployment Extensive experience in developing Backend Applications using Java/J2EE and related frameworks like Sprint Boot, Hibernate, JPA, RestFul web services etc. Exposure to Cloud will be an added advantage Bachelors degree in computer science or related field Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to implement user-friendly features and interfaces. Conduct code reviews to ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to established standards. Stay up to date with the latest development trends, tools, and technologies, and recommend best practices to enhance team productivity and product quality. Participate in Agile development processes, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance, support, and knowledge sharing to foster their professional growth and development. Excellent communication and writing skills Demonstrate a high level of curiosity, passion for technology, pride of ownership and strive for excellence .
