Software Engineer (Wordpress)

Roles & Responsibilities:

• 2 - 4 years professional experience building WordPress websites and plugins.
• Write clean, well-designed code and follow industry best practices.
• Build and maintain WordPress themes and custom plugins following WordPress coding standards and best practices.
• Implement new site features, page templates, blocks (Gutenberg), custom post types, taxonomies and REST API endpoints.
• Debug, profile and optimize performance (database queries, front-end assets, caching strategies).
• Ensure security best practices: sanitize/escape inputs, correct capability checks, protect against common vulnerabilities.
• Migrate and upgrade WordPress sites (core, themes, plugins) and resolve related compatibility issues.
• Integrate WordPress with third-party services (payment gateways, CRMs, analytics, OAuth, etc.).
• Develop and maintain cutting edge web-based PHP applications on portal plus premium service platforms.
• Build innovative, state-of-the-art applications and collaborate with the User Experience (UX) team.
• Participate in the complete web application/product development lifecycle from conceptualization and design to development, deployment, and post-launch support.
• Use test-driven development and acceptance tests to ensure feature quality.

Skill Sets:

• Deep knowledge of WordPress core concepts: hooks (actions & filters), template hierarchy, WP_Query, user capabilities, and the options/postmeta system.
• Strong knowledge of PHP and knowledge of object-oriented PHP programming.
• Capable of building efficient and reusable PHP modules.
• Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git.
• Experience creating/referencing custom post types, taxonomies, shortcodes, and custom Gutenberg blocks.
• Practical experience with the WordPress REST API and building/consuming JSON endpoints.
• Familiar with caching strategies (object cache, page cache, CDN) and basic server concepts.
• Should have experience in PHP, Laravel/Symfony, MySQL/Postgresql.
• Solid knowledge in all phases of the software development lifecycle.
• Proficient in JavaScript, JQuery, HTML5 and CSS.
• Excellent relational database skills with MySQL.
• Experience with building RESTful JSON web services.

Nice-to-have

• Experience with headless WordPress (WP as a CMS serving APIs) and frameworks like Next.js.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or deploying on cloud platforms.
• Experience writing unit/integration tests for WordPress (PHPUnit, WP-CLI testing).
• Experience with WooCommerce customizations and hooks.
• Familiarity with Composer, PSR standards and modern PHP tooling.
